Chapter 9 - Fearing Dreams

Dream's eyes snapped open.

His ribs burned with every breath. His muscles screamed. He was back in the washroom, Harriet loomed over him.

Dream could see his chest heaving up and down, it seemed he was getting tired.

Good.

Dream's lips curled faintly. "You should've… stopped while you were ahead."

Harriet frowned. "Still mouthing off?" He raised his foot for another stomp.

But, Dream's hands quickly lunged for one of the shards of the basin. Just as Harriet's foot came down, Dream twisted his body and plunged the shard straight into the femoral artery.

Blood sprayed.

Harriet's breath hitched — his expression froze in disbelief before collapsing into agony. He stumbled back, clutching his thigh as crimson poured through his fingers, mixing with the water on the floor.

Dream rolled away, the shard still in his grip. He stood up, panting — almost collapsing to the ground.

Harriet's voice broke through the agonizing pain flowing through his back, "You— you stabbed me!"

Dream didn't answer — stunned, disbelief flashed across his face as he quickly replied, "No shit Sherlock, you almost fractured my spine!"

Saying that, he limped over to Harriet who tried to push himself back, "Sta—Stay away from me!" He cried.

Dream quickly closed the distance between them and delivered a cold, hard strike to his nose. The impact caused his head to clash against the floor.

Harriet groaned weakly, his body twitching as he tried to lift his head. Blood ran freely from his nose and thigh, his breaths coming out in broken, wet gasps. His eyes fluttered, unfocused, dazed.

Dream crouched beside him, clutching the shard in his hand. His expression was unreadable — the earlier fury gone, replaced by something colder.

"You came in with five people and still lost. That's not weakness, Harriet. That's plain fraud behaviour," he muttered, his voice low. "Your life is nothing. You serve zero purpose. You should kill yourself now, or else you'll forever be the laughing stock of this Academy.

"The legends of the great fraud Harriet or whatever the fuck your name is will spread far and wide, being passed down to each generation of the Academy. About how 5 men ambushed one lone man and still lost."

Harriet's lips trembled, but no words came out. His hand shook as he tried to press harder on his leg, blood still spilling through his fingers.

Dream's tone grew sharper, "You like to talk big, Harriet and make it seem as if I should be afraid of you. But that is true the other way around too. I can be scary when I want to, too. Think long… and think hard before making me your enemy or you will learn to fear Dreams."

Then Dream stood up, his entire body trembling with exhaustion. He dropped the bloodied shard beside Harriet's head, the sharp clink echoing in the silence.

He looked down at him one last time, voice low. "Next time you pick a fight, make sure you can finish it."

Dream soon limped to exit, his arm under his thigh.

Opening the door, he felt the familiar air of the cafeteria — the laughter, the shouts and the fight to get the last remaining piece of the chocolate cake.

Dream smiled, he licked his lips, tasting the familiar taste of blood. He wiped his lips and turned to the side to see Sunny glancing at him.

Dream gave a wave with his fingers before limping out of the cafeteria.

Dream rested his head on his pillow, being back in his dorm. A sigh escaped his lips as he felt his consciousness slipping.

What a terrible day it was today.

With his last remaining strength, he held out his fingers and summoned a gold coin embroidered with the face of a delicate high born girl. She had high cheekbones framed by softly curling hair that spilled beneath a diadem. A faint, knowing smile played upon her lips — Tyche, the Greek Goddess of Luck.

This was his memory, [Tyche's Coin]

He gazed at it for a moment before flipping it. The coin spun in the air and landed on his hand — it was heads.

Dream sighed in relief before drifting off to sleep. Feeling more rejuvenated than before.
