Chapter 5 - Chapter five

Julian frowned at his words, but it quickly disappeared before it was seen. It was dark and raining heavily, there was no way she could leave since she didn't have a car and hadn't thought of a place to stay.

There was only one place she could run to but she wasn't sure if it was still safe. She turned to the patriarch who was still looking in her direction with indifference. "I have to leave right away?" Julian inquired.

The man nodded his head. His face depicts no remorse "The five years are up and from now onwards, you would no longer be a part of our family so it is only right that you leave immediately. I won't pursue what you did to my grandson."

Julian felt conflicted. "But it's late-"

"And what does that have to do with us, why don't you hurry out of here, we don't have forever." Ruby, her ex mother in law interrupted her. She couldn't wait for her to leave.

"My mother is right. Could you take your son and leave my house, and you must never return here." Williams said.

"Okay, I hope you don't regret your actions, I'm the future," With no other option, Julian turned around and walked towards her son's room. She carefully packed all of his things into a suitcase, all of them were bought by her so it wasn't right to leave them behind, once she was done, she gently roused the sleeping boy awake. "Sweetie."

"mummy?" Jason yawned as he sat up, he still looked very sleepy but he forced out a smile. "Is it morning yet? Is Daddy here to see me?"

"No honey," He wondered how to break the news to him but soon decided against it. "You and I are going on a trip."

"Right now?" he looked at her suspiciously.

"Yes. Just you and I."

"But it's raining."

"I know, it's important that we go right away or we might miss the best part."

"What about Daddy?"

"he would have to find us, we are going to play a game of hide and seek with him." she lied to him once again.

At the sound of the game, all sign of sleepiness disappeared from Jason's eyes. "Okay!" he hurriedly got out of bed and slipped into his warm, comfortable bunny shoes. Julian wore him a jacket to keep him warm, she found it hard to look him in the face since she was lying.

After getting him dressed up properly, she grabbed the suitcase and led him to the guestroom where she had stayed for five years but there was no emotional attachment to it. All she had could hardly fill up a suitcase, so she moved all of Jason's things into the suitcase.

"Jason, when you meet your Daddy soon, do not say anything to him or anyone else, we can't let him find us easily, do you understand?"

"Yes mummy. It would be a secret."

"That's my smart boy." she gently ruffled his hair. Holding the suitcase in one hand and Jason with the other, they both set out of the room towards the living room where the rest of the family are gathered. Jason was true to his words, he was smiling as they were leaving and never did he say a word to anyone.

As they stepped out of the house into the pouring rain, Julian carried her son with one hand, placing his face on her shoulder to shield him from the rain, then pulled the suitcase with her free hand. It had wheels so it was easy to drag along.

It was dark and cold, no one could be seen on the streets, there were no taxis so under the pouring rain, Julian could be seen walking on the lonely road. Before she moved to the Scout family, she had an apartment. She continued to renew the rent despite the fact that she wasn't living in it. She still hoped that it was in good shape for the night. It was quite a distance away from the Scout mansion but Julian was determined to walk the distance.

"Mummy, I want to walk." Jason's teeth were chattering and she was also shivering.

"Are you sure, honey? We will soon get to our hideout." she tried to convince him otherwise.

But he was insistent. "I'm a big boy, I want to walk."

Without an option, she had to place him down so he could walk besides her. As Julian was about to grab the suitcase, she heard the roaring of engine coming to life. It was so sudden, and Julian felt the impact of a car hitting her, throwing her off balance and her being slammed on the wet ground. She heard Jason's loud scream as she crashed to the ground.

The car drove off immediately, with the driver saying "You should only blame your luck!"

Julian carefully opened her eyes, she found the act of opening her eyelids very hard, coupled with the pain that was shooting from every corner of her body, she could only hiss in pain. When she could finally open her eyes, everything before her was blurry, she found it hard to breathe and her sides were hurting, which meant she must have broken at least a rib or two.

"Mummy!" Jason rushed to her side, tears flowing down his cheeks uncontrollably.

"Sweetie, I'm fine. You have to stop crying." Julian forced herself to sit up, and pulled him into her arms. Jason didn't stop crying so Julian had to keep hugging him, reassuring him for a long time.

Moments later, she forced herself to her feet, ignoring the pain that was shooting from her sides. She gritted her teeth to prevent herself from yelling out, she went to grab the suitcase and continued her journey with Jason who still sobbed quietly.

About an hour passed before the pair arrived before a small building, Julian hurriedly fished out the key from her pocket. "We're here."
