CHAPTER FOUR
Different emotions flashed past Clinton's face as he stared at Lucas. He was angry, he was upset, however, Lucas could still see that Clinton was in awe of him besides everything else.
"You know, you are a pretty resourceful young man, if you weren't using your brains against me, I would have liked you," Clinton said, an obviously fake smile on his face .
Lucas' lips curled up in a sneer. He didn't bother to explain that none of this was his doing. He didn't have the time to bother about what Clinton was doing, and if it wasn't for his grandmother, he wouldn't spend so much energy trying to save that bastard brother of his.
"Your tenure is expiring in a few months. I heard that you are going to be re-elected as police chief, I don't think that will be possible if people were aware of what you've done," Lucas threats could not be clearer, and Clinton's gaze got sharper.
He really hoped that he could not strangle this arrogant young man to death!
"Lucas, you really should learn to take a step back. It's not worth it if you offend everyone. You may be outstanding, but there are always ways to drag you down," Clinton warned, through his tightly clenched teeth.
"Father, Lucas, this is not a good place to talk, many eyes are on your right now. Why don't you go upstairs to my father's office?" Clinton's daughter, Lucy, stepped in just then.
She glanced at the other guests before looking back at her father and Lucas worriedly.
Lucas pulled his eyes away from Clinton and glanced at the crowd. Indeed, he was the focus of attention.
After all, they were no secrets in thier circle, and everyone was well aware of what had happened to his brother lately.
"Why don't you go upstairs?" Lucy repeated again, a smile on her face.
Clinton looked at his daughter, a relieved look on his face. If she didn't remind him, he would have made a mistake here!
Lucas glanced at Lucy too, and she spread out her hand, a smile on her face, indicating that Lucas should follow her upstairs.
His eyes were only on her for a few seconds before he started walking away.
As soon as Lucas turned away from her, the smile on Lucy's face faded. He really didn't remember her at all, huh?
...
"Father, Lucas, you can both talk in here, I'll make sure no one is coming up. You can have all the privacy that you want," Lucy said.
Clinton patted his daughter's shoulder and nodded his head in approval.
As for Lucas , he walked in without taking another look at the woman who was looking at him passionately.
Lucy was someone who was adept at controlling her feelings, so even if there was something that she wanted to say, she did not let it out.
Clinton, however was her father and he could tell that there was something wrong with his daughter.
"Lucy you..." Clinton didn't complete his sentence. His eyes just widened in appreciation of his daughter's feelings .
Lucy just smiled even more and shook her head. "Father, Lucas is waiting for you inside, he has something against you, so you should try to come to an understanding with him," Lucy said.
Clinton nodded his head, a suddenly renewed hope inside of him.
"Lucy, don't worry, I know what to do," Clinton assured his daughter.
.....
"There really isn't much for me to say here, Clinton. My brother's name will be cleared by tomorrow, right?" Lucas went straight to the point as soon as Clinton walked in.
Clinton looked at Lucas with a genuine smile on his face. Just a few minutes ago, he hated Lucas and he hoped he could kill him but now, his daughter had just given him a way out.
"Lucas, you aren't married right? So far..... although there are many women around you... there are no reports of you being in a serious relationship, right?" The police chief asked, a sly smile on his face.
Lucas froze when he heard these words, and he tried to figure out what Clinton's intentions were.
But his shock was only for a few seconds, he calmed himself down soon enough.
"What are you trying to say, Clinton?" Lucas asked.
Lucas could more or less guess Clinton's intentions, he had not kissed the passionate gaze of that woman standing outside after all.
"Well, you see, my daughter just got back, and I've been thinking about finding a husband for her. You see, she's a smart and talented woman, and you can definitely benefit from making her your wife. A man like you..... definitely doesn't believe in some silly things like love right? A wife..... should be able to help her husband as much as possible. With my daughter as your wife, I can assure you you won't have any issues with the government again!" Clinton said, a sly smile on his face.
"Marrying your daughter?" Lucas asked, a thoughtful look on his face as if he was really considering this.
This was a huge bait that Clinton was throwing out. Any business man that their biggest rival and biggest support was the government.
As long as one stayed on the good side of the government, then, there was literally nothing they couldn't get done!
However, this was not enough for a man like Lucas.
"Yes, think about it...."
As Clinton was speaking, someone knocked on the door.
Clinton eyes turned towards the door , a sharp look in his eyes.
He almost sealed such a perfect husband for his daughter, who the heck was that, anyway!
"Who is that?" Clinton barked.
"Miss Lucy asked me to bring in some wine for you," a gentle female voice called from outside.
Clinton turned towards Lucas and waved his hand, "probably a maid, no need to mind. My daughter...."
"Ask her to come in. I think I'll need a glass of wine for this conversation," he said , a sly smile on his face.
Clinton was pissed, but now, Lucas was someone that he wanted to rope in.
"Come in," he called out.
The door was pushed open, and a woman walked in.
She walked over, her head lowered.
The maid placed the tray she was carrying on the table, and she poured two glasses. She pushed the first glass towards Clinton.
And then, picking up the second glass, she handed it towards Lucas, her head still lowered
"Are you too scared to look at me?" Lucas spoke up, a sly smile on his face .
He was sure he had never seen this woman before however...
Krystal raised her head just then, and she met his gaze, it was indeed this person, Lucas!
That man had been right, perhaps.....this was the chance she had been waiting for her entire life.
She could finally get some justice!
