Chapter 15 - Finding a Job and getting a promotion on the first day of work

The company is all buzzing today about one thing: our CEO, Edwin, is dating Bella, a C-list model.

I saw the news this morning, showing a photo of a buxom but brainless woman and a man going into a hotel.

Nobody seems interested in doing work, even though it's well past the start of the working day.

Their opinion seems to echo my mother's sentiment that it's completely okay for a woman to rely on a man to get ahead.

I find this talk rather annoying, and I can't help but tell them, "Do you all really think men are only interested in chesty, brainless women?

Our CEO has some artistic taste; he won't be that superficial.

You should focus on your work instead of discussing these sorts of things."

"That's very correct, I am definitely not that shallow."

A familiar voice echoes behind me.

I turn around and am taken aback.

Isn't this the wealthy playboy I ran into in the elevator the other day?

Could it be that he is the corporate elite I envisioned?

If so, I retract my words from earlier.

When everyone sees Edwin, they fall silent and dutifully return to their work.

However, female colleagues occasionally sneak glances at Edwin.

He's good-looking and single, so it's no wonder these women want to get his attention.

I keep my head down, focused on my work.

A pair of eyes continue to linger on me, making me feel rather uncomfortable.

After a while, Edwin eventually leaves.

Half an hour later, one of my colleagues from the HR department notified me.

They want me to move all my things to the CEO's office.

I pack my things amidst the envious gazes of my female colleagues and head to the CEO's office on the 18th floor.

As soon as I enter the office, Edwin says, "Your words earlier were mostly true, but there was one mistake - I am not just somewhat deep, but very deep."

I twitch the corner of my lips, but don't say anything.

In my opinion, I haven't seen any sign of his so-called depth.

"President, why did you call me here...?"

 I asked, somewhat uncertain.

"Starting today, you are my assistant."

Edwin leaned back in his chair, speaking to me casually.

I was still baffled, completely clueless about the current situation.

I had been doing design work perfectly fine, so why did I suddenly become his secretary?

There was an official assignment from above, against which I had no right to protest.

"Where should I sit?" Edwin pointed to the seat opposite him.

I smirked, sat down, and spoke to him: "President, I have never been an assistant before.

I have no idea about my responsibilities.

Could you please explain them to me?"

"Chat with me, accompany me to meals when there are social engagements.

Most importantly, come to my house every morning to take me to the company."

Such a big CEO, surely he must have a driver to commute?

 I don't believe it.

"Where is your driver?" I asked.

"He's too boring, I just fired him five minutes ago," he said nonchalantly.

Perhaps such a rich young man doesn't understand what it means for people like us to lose a job.

By now, I no longer care what my job implies, all I am thinking about is how to earn more money to repay my debts promptly.

"What about the salary? Is it higher or lower than before?"

 "Triple."

With his response, I promptly agreed to take the job.

In the afternoon, Edwin took me to a social meal.

Seeing Micheal at the dinner table, I was left in a daze.
