"Dinner tonight?" Luca stood in my office doorway, leaning on the frame with a confidence that no doubt made every woman in town swoon.
"No, thank you." I did not even bother to look up from my screen. "I have work to finish."
"Katherine, you've said no fourteen times in the past two weeks. His smile was gentle, not pushy. "I'm starting to think you don't like me. "
"I like you fine as a colleague."
"Ouch." But he was still smiling. "What if I promise it's completely professional? Two coworkers discussing the Steinberg account over pasta?"
"The Steinberg account is perfectly fine."
"Then there's discussing how you take your coffee. Or your favorite book. Or anything for that matter that doesn't involve spreadsheets." He straightened. "I'm not asking you to marry me, Katherine. Just to have dinner with another human being who thinks you're brilliant."
