"It's too late. They've already started again."
Almost as if summoned by those words, the ground began to rumble. One after another, monstrous creatures clawed their way up from beneath the earth.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk… Guess I'll have to handle the trash," Lin Yi said with a smirk. "You focus on getting the civilians to safety."
"Alright," Raven replied calmly. "I'll evacuate everyone in the park. You deal with the demons. Think you can handle it?"
Raven started to move, but turned back to double-check, a hint of concern in her tone.
"Hmph~ Please," Lin Yi scoffed confidently. "Haven't I already proven how strong I am?"
That overconfidence was probably why he'd once been struck by lightning — poetic justice, really.
"Alright then," Raven said with a faint smile. "I'll leave it all to you."
She cast a brief enhancement spell on him before rushing off to protect the nearby people.
Lin Yi, meanwhile, cracked his knuckles, his grin widening. "Ha~ Hack-and-slash time — my favorite."
With that, he leapt into the fray, moving with the precision and flair of a seasoned fighter. The smaller demons — fragile, weak, and mindless — were nothing more than cannon fodder to him. But one monster stood out: a grotesque, bloated maggot-like creature with scarlet skin, thick armor-like flesh, and a massive hook hanging from its waist.
Its sheer presence made Lin Yi's skin crawl. The thing looked eerily similar to Nurgle from Warhammer. If it weren't for the color, he might've believed the Chaos God himself had invaded this world.
Fortunately, that wasn't the case — no "Warp," no Chaos Gods. Just another disgusting monster to crush.
Lin Yi exhaled in relief. "Thank the Emperor for that. I'd rather die and respawn than live in a world that cursed."
But relief didn't mean mercy. This maggot-like demon had nearly scared him to death, and he wasn't about to forgive that.
Its stats were clear — high attack, high defense, zero speed. The problem was its ranged hook attack: the creature hurled the chained hook with deadly precision, guided by some form of auto-tracking magic. Dodging was nearly impossible.
Lin Yi grinned. "Perfect. I was just wondering when I'd get to test my new skill."
He slammed his foot into the ground.
"Rhino Charge!"
A golden aura exploded around him, and the spectral image of a massive rhino materialized behind his shoulders. Lin Yi's body surged forward — unstoppable, radiant, divine.
The demon's hook shot toward him, but it bounced off harmlessly; in this "Domination" state, nothing could restrain him.
"Let's see how you like this!"
In just over a second, Lin Yi's momentum peaked. He aimed straight for the maggot demon and roared.
"W—AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
The impact was devastating. The creature was launched into the air like a balloon hit by a freight train.
"Ha! Control immunity and pure damage — that's the power of a genius!"
He grinned widely, though his joy dimmed slightly when he realized the skill had a 24-second cooldown. "Tch. 24 seconds? Guess it's balanced like Old K's W skill. Still… a CC-immune charge with massive damage? That's insanely good!"
Against high-defense enemies, maybe not as much — Superman-level durability, for instance. But Lin Yi chuckled at the thought. "What am I even thinking? I'm barely out of the beginner's area and I'm daydreaming about fighting Superman. Get a grip, dude."
He shook his head, tightened his grip, and dashed forward again, weaving between the demon's sluggish swings. Each time his Rhino Charge came off cooldown, he used it perfectly — dodging hooks, breaking control, and smashing into the beast with precision.
The maggot demon didn't stand a chance. Its huge body made it slow, predictable — an easy target. Within minutes, Lin Yi's relentless rhythm broke it down completely.
With a final crash, the monster fell, dissolving into ash.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk~ Old K's W skill really is busted. But damn, do I love it."
He laughed gleefully to himself. "Once I finish this quest and unlock the melee mage reward, Rhino Charge will deal magic damage! Forty percent amplified magic damage! HA! These devs must've been asleep when they coded that. I love it!"
He was already fantasizing about the possibilities — a hybrid charge that even Superman would have trouble with. But realistically? With its slow charge-up and short range, any smart opponent could avoid it.
"Whatever. No need to overthink it. It's just day one in this new world."
Hands on hips, Lin Yi turned to find Raven. "Guess I should tell her the park's clear."
"Hey."
"AH!"
Raven's sudden appearance nearly made him jump out of his skin.
"Raven?!"
She smirked. "How's that for payback? Feels good to be surprised, doesn't it?"
"Hahaha~ Alright, alright, you got me. We're even now, okay?"
She just snorted softly and walked past him, beginning the process of sealing the spatial rift nearby.
Lin Yi watched, half-impressed, half-worried. The energy fluctuations were so intense, he feared they'd draw unwanted attention — maybe even from superheroes. And dealing with them would be… troublesome.
The kind of trouble that came with too many questions and not enough answers.
He sighed. "Last thing I need is to get dissected as an 'interdimensional anomaly.'"
Once the rift was sealed, they immediately moved on to the next one.
This time, it was at a mountain outside the city.
"Ha~ 6666… But really, can't we just take a car? Why do we have to run there?"
Raven replied flatly, "You can't drive a car up a mountain."
Then, without hesitation, she used her magic to lift herself into the air.
Lin Yi stared up at her, speechless. "You can fly! Then why not just carry me?!"
Raven glanced back, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "You're too heavy."
"What?! That's ridiculous! You use magic! You're not physically carrying me!"
Raven sighed. "Magic isn't as simple as you think. It comes at a cost. Nothing comes free."
Lin Yi smirked. "Oh really? Ever heard of winning the lottery? Or being a diversity hire in America? That's free gain, isn't it?"
Raven turned away, too annoyed to respond.
He grinned mischievously. "So… you like men or women?"
"Shut up!"
"…Okay," Lin Yi said quickly, falling silent.
They traveled the rest of the way in tense silence until they reached the third spatial rift.
"Hmm… That's weird," Lin Yi muttered. "By the pattern of the last two, we should've been attacked already. Why's it so quiet?"
Raven frowned. "What are you suggesting?"
"I'm saying…" Lin Yi's eyes narrowed. "This feels like a trap."
BOOM!
The ground beneath them split open.
"!!!"
Lin Yi's instincts screamed. Without hesitation, he activated Time Stop, grabbed Raven, and leapt clear of the collapsing terrain in half a second.
"Ah!" Raven gasped as the earth caved in, revealing a massive demonic maw below — a magical trap filled with jagged, grinding teeth.
If they'd fallen in, even Raven's flight magic wouldn't have saved them.
Lin Yi chuckled breathlessly. "See? Told you I was your lucky charm."
Raven didn't respond — but she didn't deny it either.
Then, as the dust settled, the true enemy emerged.
A floating demon descended from the air — emaciated, eyeless, with a halo of feathers and a mouth full of sharp teeth. It wore a tattered demon-skin robe and skeletal ornaments — a clear sign of a mage-type entity.
"Great," Lin Yi muttered. "A spellcaster. This one's gonna be annoying."
The creature began chanting, six glowing orbs forming around it before launching toward them in a relentless barrage.
"Damn it, I hate mages!"
Lin Yi ducked, rolled, and sidestepped, avoiding each exploding orb by inches. Beside him, Raven calmly raised a magic shield, blocking every attack with elegant ease.
He looked at her and sighed. "Yeah, she definitely has it easier."
