After that, Lin Yi and Rui Rui arrived at a cemetery on the outskirts of the city.
"It's in a cemetery? Well, that fits the whole theme of magic and demons quite nicely," Lin Yi commented.
"This is just one of the rifts," Rui Rui replied, her hand glowing with a faint magical light as she scanned the area. "Besides this one, there are three more rifts. Only by closing all four can we completely prevent an invasion of extradimensional demons."
Lin Yi stretched his neck and smirked. "Four, huh? Not too many. We can probably finish them all today."
As he looked around the misty graveyard, a low growl echoed beneath him.
"Hmm?"
Before he could react further, a sharp, blood-red claw burst out from the ground right under his feet!
Without hesitation, Lin Yi lifted his leg and stomped down hard.
Crack!
A shrill scream erupted from beneath the soil as a demon's arm twisted and snapped.
"Watch out! They're here!" Rui Rui shouted, immediately getting into battle stance.
Lin Yi didn't waste time either. With his signature Golden Right Leg, he kicked fiercely, sending the demon's head flying several meters away.
"Extradimensional demons are just like this? They seem pretty fragile," Lin Yi grinned.
But before he could celebrate, the headless demon suddenly grabbed his leg with its bloody, withered hand!
"These demons can't be killed easily," Rui Rui warned. "Unless you use magic attacks, even if you destroy their bodies, they can still move."
"Oh, really? You could've told me that earlier," Lin Yi replied calmly, breaking the demon's arm and glancing at her with a teasing smile.
Rui Rui rolled her eyes. "I already told you this wasn't something you could handle. You're the one who insisted on coming."
"Alright, alright, don't be mad, my dear. I meant well," Lin Yi said with a grin, trying to lighten the mood.
Just then, a system message flashed before his eyes:
Encounter Task:Extradimensional Demon Invasion (Incomplete)Objective: Close 4 spatial rifts and defeat 4 high-level extradimensional demons.Reward:Melee Mage! (Your attacks automatically convert to adaptive magic damage! 140% bonus to total attack power!)
Lin Yi's eyes widened. "Whoa! More stats? I love stats! A Melee Mage, huh? This is getting interesting!"
Soon, the cemetery was swarming with demons crawling out from the rift—nearly a hundred of them.
"Guess this is getting serious," Lin Yi muttered.
The first wave of demons, however, was still weak—fragile like dead branches. Lin Yi could easily crush them even without using his passive abilities. The only problem was that, as a mortal, his normal attacks couldn't permanently kill these creatures without magic.
He glanced back at Rui Rui. "Hey, it's about time for a little magical enhancement, don't you think? These demon claws are starting to tickle my ankles."
Rui Rui sighed. "Fine, but you better make it worth it. There are too many of them already."
With a flick of her hand, she cast a spell that wrapped Lin Yi in a purple glow.
"Perfect!" Lin Yi grinned, looking at his fists now engulfed in purple flames. "Let's see how fireproof you guys really are!"
Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward with smooth Bagua footwork. His fists blurred, each punch blasting through demons like a cannon.
Within moments, the air was filled with the sound of breaking bones and cracking skulls. Lin Yi's punches carried the explosive force of twenty years of martial training—no demon could stand against him.
Even Rui Rui was left speechless as Lin Yi wiped out nearly a hundred demons in under two minutes.
"I didn't realize… you were this strong," Rui Rui admitted softly.
"Haha~ You're not the first to underestimate me. It's okay, I forgive you," Lin Yi said with his usual cocky grin.
"…" Rui Rui could only roll her eyes again.
After clearing the area, they finally approached a large, ancient tree. Beneath its roots, a shimmering crack twisted the air—a spatial rift.
"Wow~ So this is what a spatial rift looks like. It's like something out of a movie," Lin Yi said, genuinely impressed.
"Movie effects could never achieve this level of realism," Rui Rui replied calmly.
She then turned serious. "Alright, step back. When I close the rift, the shockwave might blow you away."
"Oh, okay," Lin Yi said, obediently backing away. But just as he did—
Roar!
A low, menacing growl echoed from nearby.
"?!?!"
Instinctively, Lin Yi flipped backward, grabbing a small pebble and tossing it toward the sound.
Whoosh!
The pebble froze mid-air—then split cleanly in two.
An invisible force shimmered into view—a towering, red-skinned demon clad in white skeletal armor, holding a jagged bone blade. Its insect-like mouthparts clicked menacingly as it roared.
"Holy crap… that's disgusting," Lin Yi grimaced.
Rui Rui quickly turned toward the threat, magic surging in her palms.
The demon crouched low, its eyes glowing with hunger.
"Alright, Rui Rui, buff me again. This one looks like it's on a whole other level."
"Got it!"
With another flick of her wrist, Rui Rui strengthened Lin Yi once more, and his flame-coated fists reignited.
The high-level demon roared and lunged at incredible speed—faster than the human eye could follow.
But Lin Yi just smiled.
"Too slow."
Time Stop — Za Warudo!
For half a second, the world froze. Lin Yi's mind raced—he slammed his right fist into the demon's face, then twisted and drove his left fist through its waist.
The moment time resumed—
Crunch!
The demon collapsed in an instant, its body crumbling into black dust.
From Rui Rui's perspective, the demon had simply disappeared—then dropped dead.
"That's it? Over already?" Lin Yi shrugged. "So much for a high-level demon."
Rui Rui blinked, stunned. "How did you do that?"
Lin Yi chuckled. "Simple. Quick reflexes and good positioning."
"…Right. Very funny." She clearly didn't buy it, but let it slide.
With the guardian demon gone, Rui Rui began closing the rift. Magical energy flared, and the ground trembled as waves of distortion rippled outward.
Lin Yi couldn't help but think, Won't this kind of explosion attract the FBI or something?
Then he shrugged. Eh, who cares? In a world full of superheroes, the police don't really matter anyway.
Once the first rift was sealed, they headed to the second one.
"Huh? It's in a park this time?" Lin Yi asked.
"Yeah," Rui Rui nodded.
Lin Yi looked around at the people jogging, walking dogs, and enjoying the sunshine.
"Hmm~ Shouldn't we, you know, evacuate the crowd first?"
