Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 Playing Chess With Shiro

"It's fine, I'm very happy. Thank you for the gift, Kanako... Mom."

Yusei showed a big smile.

He had already understood that his father had formed a new family, and he just happened to run into them.

Since they were just 'fake parents' to him regardless of who they were, he didn't have any resistance towards it.

"That's good then." Kanako let out a sigh of relief, seeming very afraid of not gaining acceptance from her new son.

Yusei's father, Kazami Akira, also looked on with satisfaction at this scene.

He had been worried his son would never move past the grief of his mother's passing, and had initially feared he would desperately resist.

'But now it seemed those worries were unnecessary. Perhaps he had always wanted a mother's love after all.'

While the two adults were feeling satisfied, the little girl who had been quietly watching everything silently showed a shift in her gaze.

It settled on Yusei, more precisely, on his handsome face, which was currently brimming with a smile.

The meeting of the new family seemed happy and perfect in every way.

Kanako smiled, personally tied on an apron, and went into the kitchen with Akira, saying she was going to prepare a big meal for the two siblings.

Akira told Yusei to take his sister, Shiro, to play. What they played wasn't specified… it probably didn't matter anyway.

The couple's intention was clearly to deepen the bond between the siblings, to strengthen the family ties.

Yusei let out a yawn and looked at Shiro, who was staring back at him expressionlessly, feeling a bit awkward.

'Come to think of it, hasn't this little girl been staring at me for a long time? Wait a minute... the name Shiro, and this white hair...'

Yusei fell into thought. He hadn't paid attention before, but now, looking at his sister's petite appearance...

'Isn't this Shiro from No Game No Life?!'

It was only then that Yusei took a good look at his sister. Apart from being possibly a bit younger, she looked very much like her.

Of course, her hair was neatly combed by Kanako, not messy like in the original work, which was the main reason he didn't recognize her immediately.

'I became Shiro's brother?'

Yusei was surprised. He still remembered some of Shiro's settings. This little girl was a genius, and you could say her brain was a precise supercomputer.

Thinking of this, a chill ran down his spine, 'Was Shiro calculating something just now while looking at me?'

'Geniuses are not to be messed with.'

"What are you thinking about?"

Suddenly, Shiro, who had been watching him, spoke.

"I was thinking about what game we should play," Yusei replied with an awkward laugh.

"Chess."

Shiro stated directly, without any hesitation, and showed no interest in playing with dolls or stuffed animals, which little girls usually like.

'Well, that's very 'Shiro'.'

"Alright then," Yusei said helplessly, leading the way back to his room.

He did have a chess set. His predecessor had liked it, so he owned one.

He himself knew how to play, but his skill level was just average. Fine for casual play, but he'd be completely lost in a real match.

But it was his sister's request, so Yusei had to brace himself and play.

He took out the chess set, and they sat opposite each other. A few minutes later...

"Checkmate." Shiro uttered the word expressionlessly.

Yusei sighed in resignation. Clearly, he had lost.

But losing was losing… there was nothing he could do. After all, his predecessor's settings didn't include being a genius.

"Shall we play something else?" Yusei tentatively asked.

"No." Shiro silently began arranging the pieces by herself, seemingly intending to play alone.

This was a high-difficulty maneuver, as one had to play two roles, requiring two different lines of thought.

'Darn, can't I, as her Onii-chan, even bring joy to my little sister? No way!' Yusei muttered to himself, then quickly left the room and went to an empty room next door.

Locking the door, Yusei immediately called out to the system.

He remembered the system had given him a newbie gift pack. He wanted to see if he could use it to turn the tables.

[Will you open the Newbie Gift Pack?]

The system's ethereal, emotionless voice sounded in Yusei's mind.

'Open'

Kazami Yusei silently chanted in his heart. Immediately, the scene before his eyes changed, as if an illusory gift box was opening.

With a pop-

The box opened, and a red eyeball item floated in the air.

[Congratulations, Host, on obtaining a pair of Three-Tomoe Sharingan.]

'The Three Tomoe Sharingan… this was really good stuff. Not to mention the various world-shattering abilities and the cool Susanoo in the future-'

'Even just its current abilities were plenty.'

'Insight, Copying, Illusion Hypnosis.'

'Especially the insight and copying… these eyes were basically like cameras, capable of remembering everything they saw.'

'No memory, no matter how excellent, could beat the Sharingan, right?'

'Looks like my chess game might be saved after all.'
