DARIAN POV (Point of view)

The train thundered through the night, cutting across miles of empty land, but the moment felt different now and before, we were escaping, running and surviving. Now, we were preparing for war. I leaned against the metal wall of the freight car, watching the darkness rush past.

Adanna stood near the open door, Eden's glow faintly reflected in her eyes.

"You're serious about this, aren't you?" she said quietly.

I nodded.

"Yes."

She crossed her arms slightly.

"You want to stop running and fight the man who trained you."

"That's exactly what I want to do."

"That sounds reckless."

"Maybe."

I pushed away from the wall.

"But Victor Hale doesn't lose prey once he locks onto it."

Her voice dropped.

"So we become the hunters instead."

A small smile touched my lips.

"Exactly."

I studied him carefully, the calm in Darian's voice wasn't arrogance but it was certainty.
