Chapter 90 - Safe Genius

What will become of BB? He's the lowest yet, nobody had no real way of knowing what he was going to do. Given, he barely had any idea of what he was going to do. His plans were only outmatched by the likes of his spontaneous actions.

"Why do you act like this?"

"I'm very childlike."

"Hardy har har."

At the moment, he was waiting with Sears in a beat-up car for orders on how to start training. They had a mutual acceptance of one another's existence but after the stunt that BB pulled with the DNA, he could barely stay in the room with the freak.

"Get out of the car."

Upon the instructor arriving at the spot, the man ordered them to step out of the car shortly before he pulled a revolver from he jacket pocket and tried to fire on them. BB noted that this man was on the higher end of intelligence and that he was a good fighter. A dangerous combo.

"What are we going to do?"

"Don't speak. Now, this is only going to hurt for a second."

Sears and BB looked at one another in a state of confusion as the man holstered his gun into his jacket before lifting his hands in a surrendering motion.

"What is wrong with you?"

The two were still hidden behind the car but BB had begun to put some things together. If he was such a hard-boiled hitman that their landlord had sent to actually kill them, then they would be dead. He knew what a D.O.W.N agent could do. He was trying to test them.

"You're not going to shoot me."

He allowed himself to stand. This was a good way to get himself killed if he was wrong. When he stood, he was almost grabbed by Sears, but he took the moment as part of some grand plan.

"Clever kid."

When BB had gone to the Diostar manor, he remembered this man. His name was Yeager. He read BB's diary. That didn't mean that he was a bad person per say, but he was certainly a questionable figure.

"Why are we here?"

"I'm here to teach you two how to use magic. The first lesson on how to use it is getting an injection."

Sears peered out from behind the car.

"Like a rabies shot?"

"Something like that. But I just need to give you an injection."

He reached once more into his jacket pocket, and this time didn't take a gun out. He had retrieved two needles. They were filled with a blue liquid that emanated a light of its own.

"I assume this is how you inject yourself with magic?"

"You're correct."

"And how do I know this isn't another trap?"

He moved the needle into his thin arm. For a good bit of time, he had felt pain as the liquid moved further up his veins. So bright that he could see its glow as it spread across him.

"What is happening to him?"

"It's a long explanation. But it is normal. Just leave him be and take yours."

Sears could make out that the needle was magical. But when he injected it into himself, he felt so… good. No battle had ever given him such relief and he began to see things.

"What is this?"

A man was fighting another man in a hand to hand duel where they moved faster than lightning. He saw a family run from their home. He saw a familiar detective talking with someone familiar. Then, it ceased.

"Finally, you're awake."

The man was sitting in his car. Now that Sears could get a closer look at this man, he realized that he looked like a cowboy. One of those men that he saw in the cinema when his dad would take him there after work.

"What time is it?"

"Its been three hours."

"That's not what I asked."

"Don't military men respect their superiors?"

Sears hadn't taken a liking to this man and when he turned his head, he could see that BB was asleep.

"Only when they are worth respecting. If not, we throw a grenade into their tent when they're sleeping."

A smirk crossed made its way across the cowboy's face like a train moving along the side of a wide hill.

"That tends to happen. But yet again, you're no military man, are you?"

Sears bit his lip in frustration with the cowboy. He didn't like this guy. Usually, people would be excited to meet him, but alas, he was a big fish in a small pond.

"Do I know you?"

It was risky. Showing weakness in memory can allude to weakness anywhere else. But he needed to know who this guy was, and how he knew he wasn't really military.

"Let's say that I'm a friend of a friend. You were part of a group of mercenaries. You were kidnapped in the middle of battle. But nobody said who took you. Your boss caused quite a bit of trouble when he found out you were gone."

"You know Windsor?"

Windsor was the name of the founder of the mercenary group he was a part of. It was about ten years since he was taken. Sears hadn't put much thought into getting back together with the group. As he mostly made do with his small-time work in New England.

"So, I think that your friend is waking up. Meet me here again next week."

"Is that it? You're not going to tell me about Windsor?"

"No."

"Why?"

"I have no reason at all to tell you. Prove yourself valuable to D.O.W.N and I might just tell you what I know."

He started the car and drove away.

"What happened while I was out of it?"

BB pretended that he wasn't pretending to be asleep for most of the time.

"Nothing."
