"Alright everyone, today we're going to be learning about something new today."
Masterfully, the entire time in school he was able to access his report card and not just that, but he had come to the conclusion that the person he had come to impersonate was not only an imbecile, but also dumb enough that they really did believe that they had candy in some van. Whether these were true or not was entirely up in the air.
"I'm so bored."
Sugar couldn't come up with anything else to do about the situation. It was royally disappointing, in truth. He was smart enough to know these subjects elementary but too dumb to find a way out. In lack of better words, he was trapped and the waiting game was on. What perhaps made the timing worse was the fact that he was trapped with being a below average to mediocre student.
"Pss."
"What?"
When Sugar rotated his head towards the sound of the annoying whisper, he retrieved the truth that he was face to face with a girl.
"Hi?"
He didn't know if that word was new to these idiots or old. His hope for the latter was fulfilled when he saw her smile at him. When class ended, he could see that she was taller than him. He was short compared to the rest of the class, but he tried to deduce anything else about her.
"Is there anything you want to talk about?"
She has dirty shoes. Dried mud. When I looked at the weather forecast this morning, it said we were going through a drought. That means she's disorganized or that she has gotten some kind of hand me down. Her hair is extremely long. But that doesn't mean anything. She's a girl. Now what is left to look at? Clothes! Her clothes are all black. Reminds me of Lia… I can't get distracted! Her clothes are all black, even her lipstick. She is obviously unhappy. Why is she unhappy? Connect that with her shoes and you have her being unhappy because she's poor. Hopefully I'm right.
"Yeah, you look familiar."
"I'm the kid that disappeared."
"No, I came here yesterday."
Ah-hah! Moving to Appalachia, a cheap place to live, then you have her being poor. But why is she poor and why did she talk to me? Most importantly, why do I have a hard time talking to her?
"You didn't answer my question."
"Well, I was wondering if you could come over to my house later. Listen to the new album?"
She motioned to the shirt that he was wearing. It was to a grunge band. He spent the entire morning watching television and reading leftover newspapers, so he had found that he was impersonating someone who had liked a new rock subgenre. That subgenre had a popular band that he just so happened to wear a shirt to.
"I would love to. Can I get your address?"
"Yeah."
She took a marker from her backpack and wrote her address on his wrist. He was thankful that he got to grow his network and he did like her, but his goal was to find Lia and if available, BB.
"Get to class."
Sugar enjoyed the schooling he got from BB far more than he ever did from America's school system. After school, he left the school and grabbed a map after getting home on the bus. When he found the street on the map, it was bedtime. But don't be confused, his fake parents had simply decided that seven o'clock was a good bedtime. Of course, he got out of the room and was soon heading over towards her house.
"You're late."
She was obviously happy that he was here. Her eyes were basically glued to him. That was until he walked into the house and found that there was in fact no furniture besides an old couch.
"Do you have a record player?"
"Nope."
Sugar looked around the room previous to him finding a bad sign. Her backpack was next to a thing that would play music, a boombox! This wasn't a setup! But from the desolate stage of the room and the fact that they were the only two people inside, he could put together that she was a squatter and a runaway.
"So, we're using the boombox?"
"Yeah…"
She and him sat down for some time as they listened to the music. To him, it was a primal form of the past, to her, it was a good time.
"That was fun. But I think that I should head home now."
"Oh, come on, I was just about to grab some beer."
"No thanks."
What they had in his time was extremely watered down. That is unless you became friends with Scott.
"Well, maybe we can grab a bite after this. I know a great place."
"Alright."
Soon enough, they were both eating their own cheeseburger at a gas station diner. Sugar was surprised at how good the food tasted but he wasn't shocked at how dirty it was.
"Maybe we can go to a movie sometime?"
"Maybe."
I think I have an idea.
