The next few days arrived too quickly.
I'd barely slept, wedged between guilt about Damien and terror about what we were about to do. Beside me, Adrien had slept peacefully, one arm draped over my waist.
When the alarm went off at six AM, he stirred.
"Today's the day," he said, his voice rough with sleep.
"Today's the day," I echoed.
We got up, got dressed. The safe house was already buzzing with activity. Damien was at the dining table, multiple laptops open, phone pressed to his ear.
"Yes, the files are uploaded. Trigger on my signal... No, simultaneous release across all platforms... Understood."
He hung up, looked at us. "We're ready. As soon as you give the word, everything goes live."
"How many outlets?" Adrien asked.
"Thirty-seven major news organizations. Fifteen international prosecutors' offices. Social media accounts across six platforms. And the dead man's switch is active if anything happens to any of us, it releases automatically."
