The Shin'ō Academy was the school in the Soul Society that trained Shinigami. After graduating from here, one would be assigned to a squad and become a Shinigami.

Following her directions, Sora found the Headmaster's office.
Sitting behind the desk was a silver-haired woman. She was the Headmaster of the Spiritual Arts Academy, Ayane Kotetsu.
She had long hair with straight bangs, with two thin braids on the right side of her face. She wore a pair of red, bar-shaped earrings. She was not wearing the black Shihakushō, but a simple white kimono, which gave her a dignified and graceful appearance.
Ayane Kotetsu's appearance was very similar to that of the future captain of the 4th Division, Isane Kotetsu. This was natural, as she was Isane Kotetsu's mother.
Although she looked to be only in her twenties, she was actually a widow with two daughters.
"Headmaster Kotetsu, I'm here to apply for the position of swordsmanship professor," Sora said.
