The sun was starting to dip lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the school courtyard. Section E was walking together, laughing and teasing each other lightly, trying to shake off the tension from the mall incident earlier.
But the laughter faltered when a dark figure suddenly stepped in front of them. His presence was commanding, almost like he had been waiting for them. Everyone instinctively took a step back.
The man's eyes swept over them, finally stopping at Adrian and his sister. Then he spoke in a sharp, authoritative tone.
"당신과 당신의 가족은 위험에 처해 있습니다."
("You and your family are in danger.")
Everyone froze. The words sounded foreign and cold, and the rest of us had no idea what he was saying.
Adrian's sister, Ciel, stepped forward, her face calm but her body tense.
"그들이 우리에게 해를 끼치지 못하게 하겠습니다."
("I will make sure they cannot harm us.")
A collective gasp went through the group. Ci-N's jaw dropped. "Wait… she… she speaks Korean?!"
The man's expression shifted slightly, and he reached out, as if trying to grab Ciel's hand.
"손을 내밀어라. 우리는 대화를 해야 한다."
("Extend your hand. We need to talk.")
Adrian stepped forward, his presence suddenly imposing. His dark eyes locked onto the man, and he replied sharply in Korean:
"그녀에게 손대지 마라. 너희는 우리와 상관없다."
("Do not lay a hand on her. You have nothing to do with us.")
The man hesitated, clearly surprised that both siblings spoke fluent Korean. The rest of Section E just stared, completely bewildered. None of us understood a word.
"You… what did he just say?" Rory whispered, eyes wide.
Ci-N clapped slowly, laughing. "Wow. I don't know what's going on, but that was amazing! I love the language. Sounds so… serious!"
Kiefer, however, narrowed his eyes at the man, tense and ready. "Explain. What's happening here?"
Adrian's expression was calm but cold. He finally raised his voice, shouting in Korean with unmistakable authority and anger:
"여기서 물러가라! 다시는 우리 가족에게 접근하지 마라!"
("Leave here! Do not ever approach my family again!")
The man's eyes widened, and without another word, he slowly backed away, disappearing into the shadows.
Section E stood frozen for a moment. Then Ci-N started clapping enthusiastically, making everyone laugh nervously.
Kiefer shook his head, muttering, "I have no idea what just happened…"
I glanced at Adrian and Ciel, still looking composed, and asked softly, "Can someone… explain all that?"
Adrian exhaled deeply, running a hand through his hair. "It's complicated… but basically, someone tried to threaten us. They weren't expecting me—or Ciel—to understand them. That's why they backed off."
"And the Korean?" I asked, still stunned.
Ciel smirked faintly. "It's our family's way of dealing with certain… matters. They won't understand unless you know the language."
Ci-N clapped again, exaggeratedly bowing to Adrian and Ciel. "I don't understand a word, but I love it. You two are basically superheroes!"
Kiefer just muttered beside me, "Superheroes… or trouble magnets."
I giggled, letting go of his hand as we continued walking, the tension fading slightly—but I knew this was only the beginning of something much bigger.
