"You've been silent since the fire extinguished," I remarked, observing Adrian from across the kitchen. "That typically indicates you're contemplating something you haven't yet figured out how to express."
"You understand me well."
"I'm getting to know you. There's a distinction."
He placed the untouched mug down and walked across the small kitchen to where I stood, close enough to feel the warmth emanating from him, the unique stillness he exuded when something was significant.
"I keep reflecting on what I mentioned in the park," he said. "About choosing you intentionally, every single day. I truly meant it. I don't think I conveyed everything, though."
