The Silver Sky Ruler was no match for the Totem Black Snake. After being driven away, the crisis finally came to an end.
Lin'an was saved!
At West Fortress, the Military Mages watched the retreating White Demon Eagle, joy spreading across their faces.
Inside the city, citizens erupted into cheers, celebrating the victory.
"It's the Guardian of Lin'an City!"
Only now did they truly understand who had been protecting Lin'an all along.
They had been wrong before.
Terribly wrong.
An elderly man leaned on his cane and looked at his son beside him.
"Didn't you say back then that the Guardian caused this disaster?"
"Dad…"
Smack!
The old man slapped him angrily. "Hurry up and kneel down and apologize to it!"
"Yes, yes!" The middle-aged man immediately knelt and bowed deeply toward the Totem Black Snake.
…
Seeing the Black Snake's victory, Tang Yue excitedly hugged Song Jie, jumping up and down.
"Sister Yue, you're hurting me."
"What? You don't like big ones?"
"Of course I do."
…
After repelling the Silver Sky Ruler, the Totem Black Snake suddenly vanished. When it reappeared, it was already standing before Tang Yue and Song Jie.
Tang Yue walked up to the city wall and gently stroked its head. "Big guy, well done!"
"Chirp~~~~"
The Totem Black Snake responded softly.
"You're tired too. Go back to the lake and rest," Tang Yue said warmly.
Soon after, its massive body disappeared once more.
With the White Demon Eagle army in full retreat, Lin'an City became as lively as a festival.
Zhu Meng, Tang Zhong, and the others returned one after another. This battle had exhausted everyone.
…
Night fell.
The streets and alleys were dimly lit.
Song Jie and Tang Yue brought back some barbecue and a case of beer to their residence.
The Lin'an crisis was resolved, and the Totem Black Snake's innocence was finally proven.
Tang Yue felt completely at ease and wanted to drink to her heart's content.
After opening the door, they entered the living room and placed the food on the table, then moved it beside the French window.
They ate while enjoying the night view outside.
Tang Yue clapped her hands and stood up. "Song Jie, I'm done eating. I'm going to take a shower first."
"That's good. I want to shower too," Song Jie said with a smile as he stood up.
"Then… you go first…" Tang Yue's pretty face flushed as she spoke softly.
"What's the point of showering alone? It's more fun with two people," Song Jie said.
Before Tang Yue could reply, Song Jie walked over, lifted her up, and headed straight for the bathroom.
"Song Jie…"
"I'm a decent person. We're just taking a simple shower," Song Jie replied.
Tang Yue felt mortified, but there was nothing she could do—they were already inside.
Soon, the sound of running water echoed from the bathroom.
"Didn't you say it was a simple shower…? Mm… mm…"
"Is scrubbing each other's backs not simple?"
"Then can you please not pinch with your hands…?"
…
Half an hour later.
Song Jie and Tang Yue walked out wrapped in bathrobes, Tang Yue's cheeks still flushed.
She was extremely embarrassed—what Song Jie had done was far too shameful.
"Sister Yue, how are my eight-pack abs?" Song Jie patted his abdomen.
Tang Yue glanced at them, her ears turning red.
"Not bad…"
"Not bad?" Song Jie narrowed his eyes. "Do you want to taste their power?"
"Ah?!" Tang Yue quickly looked away. She really couldn't handle it.
Song Jie walked over and lifted her up.
Tang Yue naturally knew what was coming and buried her face in his chest.
The bedroom door opened, a faint fragrance drifting through the air as they reached the soft bed.
"Song Jie… this is my first time trying…" Tang Yue stammered.
"It's okay. I'm here—don't worry," Song Jie said gently, stroking her long hair as he looked into her beautiful eyes.
"Mm…" Tang Yue nodded, feeling his hand begin to wander again…
That night passed in silence.
…
The next day, at noon.
Song Jie woke groggily and realized Tang Yue was no longer beside him.
He got up and walked into the living room, then toward the kitchen after hearing movement.
Tang Yue, dressed in black ice-silk pajamas, was making porridge.
Song Jie walked over, hugged her from behind, and inhaled her scent.
"Awake?" Tang Yue smiled as she turned her head.
Song Jie kissed her cheek and laughed. "Just woke up. I didn't see my beauty and thought you ran away to avoid responsibility."
"Who's avoiding responsibility?" Tang Yue pouted. "I was just afraid you'd be hungry."
"Yes, yes, my mistake. After we eat, I'll give my beauty a little reward," Song Jie grinned.
"You scoundrel~~~"
"Come, I'll help you bring it out."
"Be careful, it's hot."
Soon, the two sat at the dining table, drinking porridge and eating bread with fried eggs.
"Not bad, right?" Tang Yue asked.
"Delicious!"
Hearing that, Tang Yue nodded contentedly. "At least you have taste."
Song Jie finished his bowl in one gulp. "But I still think you taste better…"
Tang Yue's cheeks instantly flushed crimson.
"Come on, my little beauty. I'm giving you a proper reward."
"I haven't finished eating yet."
"I've got something else for you to eat—it'll fill you up."
"You little rascal~~~"
The two entered the bedroom again.
…
In the following days, Song Jie went back and forth between Tang Yue's place and the Judgment Association.
Tang Yue also became more mature and skilled, learning many new tricks.
One day, Song Jie and Tang Yue arrived by the lakeside, where the Totem Black Snake appeared before them once more.
"Chirp~~~"
"The big guy is thanking you," Tang Yue explained.
"You're welcome. I did it for Sister Yue too," Song Jie replied honestly.
"By the way, do you want the skin it shed? It can be used to forge defensive magic tools," Tang Yue asked.
"Yes."
Song Jie nodded immediately.
Not only did he know how powerful such defensive tools would be, but even if he couldn't use them himself, he could give them to others—or sell them.
Either way, it was a profit.
"You're returning to the Demon Capital tomorrow, right?" A hint of reluctance flickered in Tang Yue's eyes.
"Yes," Song Jie smiled. "School's starting again. If I don't go back, I'll get scolded."
Tang Yue nodded softly.
Seeing her reluctance, Song Jie comforted her. "Don't worry. I'll come see you often."
"You promised."
"Of course."
…
After bidding farewell to the Totem Black Snake, the two returned to the car.
"Song Jie… will we… in the car…?"
"Relax. No one can see through these windows—and there's no one around…"
"Mm…"
