Chapter 8 - World's End

'5 years ago, when I got to know about the world's secret. At that time, I took it for a fantasy story. Never in my life, I thought all those stories would turn out to be real. When I saw those things for the first time with my eyes. I… I wasn't sad, dispirited or horrified. I was excited, thinking the world's fate rested on my shoulders. It was pathetic, but that's what I thought at that time.'

I glanced at the world turning into hell, the sky freezing, and the earth was burning. While the storm was going on in the clouds. I couldn't see but only hope for the best.

Suddenly, a thought came to my mind. If I killed that Fire Phoenix while no one was here, wouldn't I be the saviour of the world, the gate will be lost forever, and everything will end.

"Haha… I'm getting crazy."

I glanced at the phoenix that was lying in the middle of magma, wounded. I stared at him; his blazing eyes reminded me of those days when I was running for my life, and no one was there to save or help me, only him.

"Well, I couldn't be the hero for this world, but I can be for my little birdy," I murmured in a low voice, a slight smile appearing on my lips with eyes carrying a few drops of water.

I let go of my desperation to be a hero; I shouldn't have gotten too obsessed with those movies.

'I was always an audience, and I am still one'

A loud boom resounded in the sky, followed by a destructive shock wave, wiping away the whole battle arena. Almost making me exposed to them, after barely balancing myself when I gave a look at the sky.

"Fuck…"

I colossal black skull was covering the entire city, dangling above. On top of the skull stood the Lilith, staring down at the world. While below the skull, Kai and Malghor were fighting each other, one of Malghor's crimson horns was broken. He was swinging his axe at the Kai like crazy, one after another, red arcs of light manifested from the axe, but not a single one hit the Kai.

The gigantic skull moved, opening a hideous mouth. A huge suction force came from its mouth like a black hole. My body and the broken building flew into the sky, making me horrified. It wasn't only me, but almost everything: rocks, broken buildings, cars, buses, street lights, monsters and the hope devouring whatever came in its way.

I no longer tried to distract myself, just watching everything as I flew towards its mouth. The world, destruction no longer carries much weight to me. I am just a seer, and I will do my part, let things go on their way.

'This is my role in this battle, and I will play it as it should be.'

Kai's body had already been devoured by the skull; it was no longer visible. Lilith stood above the skull, watching this chaos unfold like a queen. As I was getting closer, the darkness was increasing, and the world was losing. My body finally entered its mouth; the light vanished from the world what remained was only darkness.

"Squeak…"

A familiar bird chirp sounded in the darkness, lost between the chaos, almost inaudible. I turned my gaze to it and saw a little bird burning in flames, the only light source coming towards me.

It was coming closer to me, crossing through all the hurdles. In a few seconds, it was in front of me. Its wings wrapped around me, and it started rubbing its face against mine. I wanted to hug him back, but didn't do that. I can't play too many roles at the same time. From the time I got to know acting, I never ever did a good role play, always messing up every time.

Suddenly, I felt a strange cold coming from the deepest darkness. My eyes fixed there, watching as the change started to become more and more visible. My body started to freeze, my blood turning cold, and a thin layer of ice started to form around my body. I took a glance at the Phoenix wrapped around me. Its body was also turning cold, and flames were dying.

'Finally, things should end here. At least I got to watch one more movie before the dream ends.'

With a light smile, I forced my hands to move, giving a last hug to this little bird, which had grown bigger than me in just a day.

'Well, it could be considered one of the best movies. I watched in this life.'

Our body was drifting into darkness without any direction. My thoughts became hazy, my eyes lost the light, nothing could be seen, and nothing could be felt. My body was becoming completely numb.

'Though nothing went according to what I planned and thought, the world ends here. I had always been asking myself what I wanted to live for. What are my life goals? What am I doing? Right or Wrong? But I never question one thing. Do I really want answers to these questions…"

In the last moment of my life, a light bird chirp echoed in my ears, before I lost myself in this void.
