Chapter 12 - Mysterious Old Man

We were sitting in the car going to some anime theme park because of Alina. There were a total of five people in the car: me, Alina, My Mom, My Dad, and that woman who was also joining us.

'She has already started to become sticky, but currently isn't more than a fly, not really a problem can still be ignored.'

"Lucian, why are you so silent all the time?" A voice called me.

"That's how I am." I gave a short reply to this woman and turned my head away from her, staring at the moving clouds in the sky.

"Verina, he has been a silent one from childhood. He doesn't really talk much." My Dad spoke to this woman.

"Oh, well, if he remains like this, how is he going to adjust in college? Well, no worry, Lucian, you can come to me whenever you have any problem." After sharing her concern, she offered her free help.

'This woman is actually going to join the same college I had joined. She is a new teacher, quite suspicious, but I would still follow the script, not worth changing anything for the time being.'

The time continued to pass, and in an hour, we arrived at the theme park. Alina was super excited, walking ahead while everyone followed behind her. I was looking at the surroundings, and I felt a few eyes watching over us or more precisely, Verina's every step since she stepped into this place.

I looked at her, and she also seemed to know about people following her. We all followed Alina inside. Once we entered the theme park, I saw the gaze on Verina increased by a few more people.

'It looks like today I may get into trouble.'

As we were looking around, I saw two girls approaching us. One was Alice, and the other was her sister Iris. These two were also here. Alina quickly went to her, but once Iris came, I felt the gaze being quickly dispersed as if they were afraid of her.

I went away from the group, letting them interact with each other, finding myself a silent place. I sat on the bench, staring at the blue sky, as the cold wind brushed past my hair.

'This beautiful world is nearing its end with every passing day. First chance, I ruined it all, and this second one, I still can't do anything. Capturing these beautiful sceneries with my eyes is the only thing I can do.'

I was gazing at the sky when someone came and sat beside me. I glanced at him, then I continued to stare at the sky.

"Young Man, have you heard about tales of the sky palace?" The old man sitting beside suddenly spoke to me.

"No", I replied without looking at him.

"Do you want to know about it?" the old man again asked.

"No", my reply remained the same.

After this, the old sat calmly, no longer speaking. I gave a glance at my shadow, where the dream beast was shaking in fear while trying to hide.

'This old man's appearance says many things. Most likely, the mysterious organisation from this world also know world doom is nearing. So, they are looking for hope in the dark, just like those organisations from my previous world. This time, I won't become a fool; I am not the destined one. Fooling myself is the worst thing for me and for this world, too.'

The old man sat beside me for a while before standing up and leaving a few words behind.

"Every drop of water contributes to the formation of the sea. If every drop were to form its own sea, it wouldn't even survive the sunlight…"

I looked at the old man departing figure and said, "What the sea can do, single drop or all the drops combined, can they extinguish the sun?"

Hearing my words, the old man paused in his step, turned around and said, "We should do the best we can. We don't need to act only when we win, even if failure is certain; we should make the best use of what we have…"

After these lines, the old vanished in the crowd. I continued to sit there.

'Unity, struggle and hope. The only things that desperate people rely on. The wisdom is fake, and the words are lies. Only things that matter are the results. When things unfold, I will see how many can remain true to these words.'

I stood up from my place and gave a last look in the direction the old man had vanished before turning towards the opposite direction. I walked forward while my thoughts became a bit chaotic.

'Will there really be hope in this darkness?'

With each step, I don't know why, but these thoughts started to mess with my head like the raving hollowing me from inside.

'I fell for his trick. If I don't deal with it quickly, I may…'

Every single step was destroying me internally. I continued moving without turning back, carrying a new pain within me.

"Lucian…" A voice called me from the crowd. When I turned, I saw Alina standing there, her eyes filled with tears as she quickly came to me.

"What? Did you lose your way with others?" I asked her nonchalantly.

"Someone… stole my purse and phone. While chasing him, I… lost my way." She explained while crying.

"Oh, forget it, we will report this incident, nothing can be done. Let's meet up with others." After saying this to her. I grabbed her hand and went to meet with Mom, Dad and others.

"Um…" She quietly followed along, wiping away her tears.

'Well, things have already started to involve me in this chaos. I have to make my stance clear, or it will only become worse with every passing day, more and more people will appear.'

Once we met with others, Alina continued crying and explaining to others, finally being consoled by everyone, she calmed down.
