"Itsuki, we meet again!"
Danzo Shimura arrived with dozens of Root shinobi, completely surrounding Itsuki.
He stared at Itsuki with a smile, stomped his cane into the ground, and said, "I didn't explain clearly when we met last time, so perhaps you still misunderstand me."
"I am an elder of Konoha and the Hokage's advisor. The organization I founded has long hidden in the shadows, silently protecting the village.
Our purpose is to eliminate any hidden dangers that could threaten Konoha's peace. A true shinobi should carry their burden in silence, sacrificing themselves in the darkness.
Your abilities are exactly what the village needs. Here and now, I sincerely invite you to join my organization and become part of the glorious Root of Konoha."
Danzo thought his speech was flawless. Root, hidden in the dark, silently protecting the village—that was surely greater than Hiruzen's so-called Will of Fire, wasn't it?
As for Mito Uzumaki and Kushina Uzumaki standing nearby, Danzo ignored them entirely.
He assumed they were still bound by Orochimaru's Impure World Reincarnation.
Since the jutsu wasn't perfected, they couldn't be at full power.
Danzo had no idea Itsuki had already freed them with the Sharingan.
To him, they were just puppets—not worth acknowledging.
"Are you done?" Itsuki sneered, his eyes cold. "There's no misunderstanding between us. Konoha doesn't need a self-righteous parasite like you. Your existence only corrupts the village further."
"It's important to know your place, Danzo. You're not a hero. You're not Konoha's root. You're just a leech clinging to Konoha, sucking away nutrients while giving nothing back."
"And don't flatter yourself—you're no longer the Hokage's assistant. You're nothing but a shameless old fool pretending to matter."
Itsuki didn't waste any more words.
He clasped his hands together. With a deep rumble, a massive wooden warrior erupted from the ground.
His blunt words hit Danzo harder than any jutsu. Veins bulged on his forehead, his face twisting with fury—he nearly had a stroke from sheer anger.
But worse, he hadn't expected Itsuki to attack immediately without hesitation.
This wooden construct was far larger than the one Itsuki summoned a few months ago, its oppressive presence more overwhelming than ever.
Under Itsuki's control, the wooden warrior raised its colossal leg and brought it crashing down.
Two Root shinobi were instantly crushed into pulp.
Five or six more were thrown back, coughing blood, from the shockwave alone.
The rest barely dodged. Only a handful escaped unharmed.
"Damn it!" Danzo cursed, retreating under the protection of his guards, his face dark and twisted.
What made him different from Hiruzen Sarutobi?
Why did Hiruzen gain Itsuki's loyalty with ease, while he was rejected even after humbling himself?
He had already offered Root. He had already given a place of honor. And yet Itsuki had refused him outright and answered with violence.
"So huge!" Kushina gasped.
She had just finished performing the sealing formula to cut her connection with Orochimaru's jutsu. Seeing the towering wooden giant shocked her completely.
Mito's eyes softened in memory. "Yes… this is Wood Release, just like Hashirama's. Itsuki's mastery is already extremely advanced. In terms of Wood Release alone, he is not much weaker than Hashirama."
"He's only thirteen!" Kushina's jaw dropped. "He's already on par with the First Hokage?"
"No… he's even better than Hashirama," Mito corrected, her eyes glowing with admiration.
Then her gaze snapped toward Danzo, sharp and disdainful. "And that's the so-called disciple of Tobirama? If only Tobirama could see this disgrace with his own eyes."
"Danzo speaks so grandly of protecting the village, but when it's under invasion, instead of defending it, he comes here just to harass Itsuki. Where the hell is this man's mind?"
Kushina fell silent.
Back in her lifetime, Danzo was already Konoha's elder. She'd never interacted with him much, but his presence had always felt suffocating and sinister.
Boom! Boom! Boom!!
The wooden warrior rampaged under Itsuki's command, chasing Root shinobi like ants.
Three punches. Two kicks. More than a dozen Root shinobi dead. Not one managed to land a blow on the wooden giant, let alone restrain it.
"His strength has increased this much?" Danzo's eyes narrowed with fear.
The men he brought were chosen specifically to counter Wood Release.
They were stronger and greater in number than last time.
But Itsuki had taken the initiative, striking first. The wooden giant's overwhelming might left them completely useless—fit only to die.
Danzo's face grew pale. He quickly gave the retreat signal.
Then he raised his voice, shouting: "Itsuki! Stop, unless you no longer care about her life!"
He gestured, and one of his men dragged a captive forward. A woman with striking red hair.
Itsuki's eyes widened, his fury igniting.
"You old dog!" he snarled. "You dare call yourself Konoha's root? Where the fuck do you get that nerve?!"
Chakra flared around him. In an instant, Itsuki leapt from the wooden giant, closing the distance in a blur.
A wooden spear formed in his hand, its tip aimed straight for Danzo's heart.
But Danzo had anticipated this. Shocked as he was by Itsuki's speed, he yanked the red-haired woman in front of him, seizing her by the throat with his left hand.
If Itsuki advanced even one step, Danzo could snap her neck before the spear landed.
The spear's tip hovered just centimeters away from Danzo's face.
The woman he held hostage—was none other than Uzumaki Kana, who had been staying quietly at home.
Itsuki's calculations had missed her.
Kana had become almost reclusive, living peacefully, never leaving home. He believed no one would target her.
But Danzo had found the one weakness left to exploit.
It wasn't surprising. This was exactly the kind of despicable move Danzo Shimura would make.
"Everything I do is for Konoha!" Danzo declared coldly, his expression twisted.
"Your abilities are too valuable to let slip beyond the village's control. For Konoha's sake, even the greatest sacrifice is acceptable."
"Let her go." Itsuki's voice was ice. He didn't argue. He didn't explain. Just a single command, heavy with murderous intent.
Kana hung limp in Danzo's grip, unconscious. Itsuki knew: if she were awake, she'd have chosen suicide rather than let herself be used as leverage against him.
"Very well," Danzo sneered. "Let one of my men seal your chakra. As long as you don't resist, she won't be harmed."
That was Root's way. Only by discarding all emotion could they cut away weaknesses.
Otherwise, no matter how powerful someone was, they'd become a fish on the chopping block.
Danzo gestured. A Root operative crept toward Itsuki cautiously.
But Itsuki wasn't one to bow to threats.
He moved suddenly, snatching the Root shinobi by the neck. Chakra flared—and the man's head exploded into nothingness.
The headless corpse was tossed aside like trash.
"I told you to let her go!" Itsuki's voice cut through the air like a blade. His eyes never once left Danzo.
Even while killing the Root member, he didn't look away—not for a second.
His entire body radiated killing intent so dense it suffocated.
Even Danzo Shimura felt a flicker of fear.
For a split second, his grip almost tightened, almost snapped Kana's neck.
But instinct stopped him.
He knew—if he killed Kana now, he would be the next corpse on the ground.
Itsuki hadn't compromised. And now Danzo was trapped, caught in a deadly stalemate.
