After their morning run, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff sat in a quiet corner of a small café, discussing the recent series of events. Steve's brow was furrowed—he was deeply worried about Hydra's activities.
As they talked, Natasha's phone suddenly rang. She glanced at the caller ID—it was Maria Hill. Without hesitation, she answered.
"Natasha, I have urgent news. Nick Fury has been injured. He was seriously hurt during a battle with Hydra operatives. We're taking him to the S.H.I.E.L.D. medical facility now," Maria's voice sounded anxious.
Natasha's expression immediately tensed. She turned to Steve and relayed the news.
"We need to get to the hospital and check on Nick," Steve said. Without another word, they left the café and headed straight to the facility.
At the hospital, they met Maria Hill, waiting anxiously for Nick's surgery to finish. She nodded at them, signaling to wait.
Time seemed to stretch endlessly as Steve and Natasha silently prayed for Nick's safety. Hours later, a doctor finally emerged. They rushed forward to ask about Nick's condition.
The doctor nodded slightly, confirming the surgery was successful. Nick was recovering, though his body had sustained heavy injuries. Steve, Natasha, and Maria all exhaled in relief.
When Nick woke, his expression was serious. He recounted the battle, especially the appearance of the Silver-Arm Warrior.
"I don't know exactly what happened on his side, but he seems involved in Hydra's scheme. He mentioned they're searching for the Super Soldier serum—a highly dangerous technology. We need to uncover their plan and stop them," Nick said with determination.
"Hydra? Really Hydra…" Steve murmured, hearing confirmation from Fury himself.
"We can't stand by any longer. Their scheme is getting more dangerous, and we have to stop them," Steve said, his gaze steely.
Nick's expression darkened as he turned to Steve. "The Silver-Arm Warrior… his identity is Bucky. Bucky Barnes."
Steve's face immediately shifted to shock and anxiety. His eyes widened as he stared at Nick.
"Bucky? Bucky Barnes? Are you sure?" Steve asked, almost trembling. He could hardly believe that this name he had longed to see again was now connected to Hydra.
Nick nodded solemnly. "Yes, Steve. I heard his voice and saw his eyes. His appearance has changed dramatically, but I'm certain it's Bucky." There was a trace of sadness in his voice.
Steve stood, clenching his fists tightly. Bucky was one of his closest friends, a comrade in countless battles. Yet he had gone missing during a mission, and Steve had long mourned his absence.
"We have to find him, Nick. No matter what happened, Bucky cannot be Hydra's tool. Tell me—where is he?" Steve said firmly.
Nick understood Steve's feelings. "After Electro defeated him, he was captured. He's likely with the H.A.W.K. group or the Umbrella Group."
Nick's words made the others frown, while Steve's urgency grew. "Then what are we waiting for? I want Bucky back."
Steve turned to leave, but suddenly felt an arm loop around his. He looked back—it was Natasha.
Steve met Natasha's eyes and sighed. "Natasha… what is it you want to tell me?"
Before she could answer, Hill said, "If Bucky is in Electro's custody, I can use S.H.I.E.L.D. authority to see Nathan Hawk."
Nick, lying on the bed, interrupted: "Steve, don't worry. When Electro took Bucky, I told him Bucky would not be harmed. You have nothing to fear."
Hill's and Nick's words gradually eased Steve's anxiety. He looked at Natasha and, as if conceding, said, "Alright, if their intentions are clear, what about you?"
Natasha's expression was serious. "Since Bucky's life isn't in danger, my focus now must be Hydra. Their actions toward the Director indicate they're plotting something very sinister."
Steve nodded, and the three turned their attention to Nick.
After a moment of thought, Nick said, "This should involve Vice President Rodriguez."
"Rodriguez? The Vice President?" Steve's mind recalled Natasha mentioning him during the morning run.
Seeing Steve's confusion, Hill continued, "Rodriguez is involved in the Desperado Soldier incident."
"You mean the Vice President is part of a plot against the President?" Steve asked gravely.
Steve also recalled the attack on Matthew Ellis by the Desperado virus. Hawkeye had arrived at the scene, though apparently, the superhero "Zed" from the H.A.W.K. group had already contained the situation.
"Yes, Mr. President. Our intelligence collected one key piece of information," Hill said, showing Steve a photo of a young girl.
"This is how she looks standing. This is her in a wheelchair," Hill explained. "Rodriguez's granddaughter is disabled. Her legs were crushed. Without prosthetics, current technology couldn't make her walk."
Steve turned to Nick, concerned.
Nick shrugged. "I'm not sure how, but the Desperado virus can enable someone to stand as if nothing happened."
"Don't act rashly. That's how we got this clue," Natasha added.
"So you're saying Rodriguez intends to confront us directly?" Steve asked cautiously, shaking his head. "It's like trying to kill someone with a borrowed knife."
"Almost, just short of it," Hill said, operating the tablet and showing Nick's location during the attack and Hydra's offensive positioning.
"According to S.H.I.E.L.D. command calculations and Bucky's subsequent appearance, the Director's survival odds were 1%. That's the highest estimate."
Natasha and Nick remained silent—they knew Hill had more to explain.
But Hill only looked at Nick.
The others also glanced at him.
Nick took a deep breath, explaining his actions. "Here's the thing—I deliberately leaked my location. Only a few people in S.H.I.E.L.D. knew exactly where I was. I wanted to test if someone truly intended to kill me."
Steve, Natasha, and Hill looked puzzled. They knew Nick Fury was cautious and clever, but this plan seemed risky.
"You're saying you exposed yourself to uncover potential traitors?" Steve asked, shocked.
Nick nodded. "Yes. I was worried S.H.I.E.L.D. could be compromised, especially with Hydra's increasing threat. If someone wanted me dead, they would reveal themselves."
Natasha considered this for a moment. "The plan makes sense, but it's dangerous. If the attack failed, your movements would be exposed. But if it succeeds…"
Nick gave a wry smile. "I weighed the risk. I believed it necessary. And this attack confirmed my suspicion: someone in S.H.I.E.L.D. leaked my location, otherwise the assault wouldn't have been so precise."
Hill stayed silent briefly, then said, "Director, your suspicion is valid. If there's a traitor, we must find them before S.H.I.E.L.D. faces greater danger."
Steve nodded. Though concerned, he understood the necessity of Nick's plan.
"So what's our next move?" Steve asked, ready to act.
Nick thought for a moment. "First, we investigate this attack, identify the assailants, and the organization behind it. Second, I'll closely monitor certain senior agents for suspicious behavior. Lastly, we must ensure my location remains secret to prevent another attack."
"I suspect the assailants are Hydra, and S.H.I.E.L.D. may already be compromised."
Steve, Natasha, and Hill nodded—they knew this was a crisis requiring decisive action.
"We must proceed cautiously, without alerting the traitor. Nick, protect yourself at all costs. We will fully support your investigation," Steve said. They knew this threat involved both Hydra and potential internal betrayal.
"So…"
Nick Fury looked at the three, serious and scrutinizing. "Can I trust you?"
