Squatting on the ground, she gently wiped the rock, where the smell of blood still lingered, with her hand, then brought it to her nose and sniffed lightly.
"It's not human blood! It's from some kind of wild beast. Judging by what we've seen walking along the river, someone must have processed a wild beast here. Is it those Sarkaz mercenaries?" The Sarkaz spoke. Her voice was female, and although it had a sense of weariness, it was full of vigor.
"Probably not. Not to mention the battlefield during the day is quite a distance from here, this location isn't on the two mercenary teams' routes. There should be someone else nearby. However, our mission is complete. Should we withdraw directly or investigate who is nearby?"
The male Sarkaz shook his head, then looked in the direction Kanna had left.
"Let's sneak over and take a look. After all, the vessel needs to pass through this line, and we must confirm that the other party won't affect our vessel."
The Sarkaz quickly made a choice.
"You're still so cautious, Outcast."
"Likewise, Misery."
Clearly, these two were the leaders of the team. After they made their decision, the squad adjusted its route and headed towards the cave where Kanna was resting.
Soon, they arrived at Kanna's location. Looking at the flickering firelight from the cave, the squad cautiously surrounded the entrance.
"The target should be inside."
"I've checked the vicinity. There are no beasts, not even bugs, around, so it seems the other party has been stationed here for a long time. But it's a bit strange. I haven't seen any overt or covert sentries, nor any traps. If it weren't for the firelight, I would have thought this was an ordinary wild beast's den."
"It is indeed strange. Even ordinary scavengers shouldn't be completely unprepared in such a wilderness. This isn't normal!" Outcast said, staring at the cave entrance with a puzzled expression.
"I'll sneak in and take a look! With my Originium Arts, as long as the opponent isn't a top-tier caster, I can easily infiltrate." After a brief thought, Misery prepared to venture in and investigate.
"Alright, we'll get ready at the entrance. If you discover danger, retreat immediately." Outcast didn't stop her, as she believed that Misery, as an Elite Operator, could handle the situation.
Under the squad's watchful eyes, Misery skillfully slipped into the cave.
However, Misery, having entered the cave, did not transmit any message through the squad's combat channel.
Just as everyone was feeling anxious about the silent channel, Misery's voice came through their earpieces.
"Come in, there's no threat inside."
Somehow, Misery's voice sounded a bit strange, as if she had discovered something incomprehensible.
Although she didn't know the situation inside, Outcast confirmed that the voice in the channel was indeed Misery. She believed no one could control Misery so quickly and silently. However, for safety, she still decided to lead the team. If there was real trouble, she could hold them off, giving the Operators behind time to evacuate.
Upon entering, they were met with a huge, almost complete wild boar skeleton and a roaring bonfire nearby.
Further inside, Misery stood there with an incredulous expression. At her feet, Outcast clearly saw a Young Dragon lying peacefully asleep on a bearskin.
