Chapter 2 - Lucian

"Oh, you're back. I was hoping you wouldn't come back this early." mother said coldly as I walked through the door. "Did you at least get me a good book?" She sneered. When I didn't say anything, she narrowed her eyes on me and walked over, grabbing me by the collar of my suit. Her manicured nails dug into the soft fabric of my favorite suit. "Young man, I asked you a question." She snapped at me as if I was a servant instead of her son.

I pulled out the book. The book that I grabbed before the girl could. I smirked at the memory of her fear as she looked up at me.

She was actually a very pretty, young creature. Her long black hair was pulled into a loose bun. And the way her deep, chocolate eyes stared up at me. Her little, thin lips quivered in fear. Her tiny hands compared to mine.

Mother snatched the book from me, violently pulling me out of a day dream that I wish I could stay in.

"Your father should be home soon. Go to your room and don't come back down until he is home." Mother sneered. She turned away, clutching the book to her chest. She left me in the entry way, alone.

Father came home as we started dinner. He didn't even spare me a glance, instead he headed directly over to mother. "We had mail today. Care to explain why it was still in the mailbox and not on my desk?"

"Ask that thing you call an heir." She retorted.

They both turned on their heels to face me. "Explain, boy." Father demanded, disgust contorting his face.

"The mail wasn't here when I got home." I sneered.

Father walked over and grabbed me by the hair. "You had one job!" He pulled me out of the chair. I wobbled to keep my balance. "Go to your room! You don't deserve dinner tonight!" He let of me with a shove. I ran out of the room, but I could still hear him through the walls. "Pathetic, just like his brother was."

I walked down the stairs in the morning. Father and mother were at the bottom of the stairs. "Hurry up boy. We have someone to go meet." Father said, rolling his eyes.

I nodded and ran down the stairs. "Goodbye mother. Goodbye father."

"You're not staying today. You are one of the main reasons we are going." Mother sneered. She smoothed out her black silk skirt. "We've found you a suitable wife."

No, no, no… I've told them plenty of times that I don't want to marry.

I walked into the flower shop. A little bell above the door rang, a soft little sound matching the interior of the shop. The vile smell of roses and other flowers flooded my senses. Revolting.

"I'll be right with you!" A girl shouted from the back of the store. She walked in. Her black hair was put in a braid today. Her eyes were fixed on her tiny hands that she wipes on her rose pink apron. She looked up and her gorgeous brown eyes caught mine. "Y-you."

She quickly turned to run, but fathers voice stopped her mid step. "Rosaline Vale, come here child." Father took a step forward. "Where do you think you're going?"

"T-to get mom and dad." She stuttered. Her little hands trembled at her sides.

Father brushed her cheek with the back of his hand. "Good girl, this is family matters."

The girl quickly ran away. After a little bit, her parents came down with her and two other kids.

"Mr. Thorn," The girl's father started, pushing the younger girl behind him. "I'm sorry, but please, don't kill her. She's too young." The man pleaded.

"Acualy, I didn't for Fleur. We came for Rosaline. You see, we got a very persuasive letter last night. Would you like me to read it?" Father didn't even let the family answer. "The letter reads

"Dear Mr. Thorn, you have threatened to kill my youngest sister, Fleur. But, what if I trade Rosaline for Fleur's life. You let your son mary Rosa, and Fleur gets to live. I don't want any money… Just my little sister's safety. Forever in your debt, Adrian."

The room fell silent as everyone turned to look at Adrian, the girl's older brother. What the hell is wrong with him? He just sold Rosa for the other girl's life? What the f-

"No! Rosa!" The younger girl screamed, reaching for Rosa, but mother jerked Rosa from the girl and threw her at me.

I caught her and looked down at her delicious chocolate eyes. I could get lost in them forever…

"Silence, girl!" Father hollered as he smacked the girl.

Rosa tried to claw herself out of my arms as the girl stumbled back. "Sit still." I sneer, holding her tighter to my chest.

"You monster! You her again, I'll-" Rosa's cut off when father holds a gun to the girl's head.

"Father… What are you doing?"

"Either we take Rosaline, or we kill Fleur."

"Take Rosa!" Mrs. Vale yelled urgently. "Please, don't kill my baby!"

My jaw did everything but drop. She didn't even hesitate to tell us to take Rosa. Father holstered his gun again and the girl ran into her mother's arms. Rosa trembled as she tried to hold back her tears.

"Come on, let's go." I led Rosa to the car. She climbed in without question. She balled up as I slid into the seat across from her. She buried her face in her hands.

"They don't love me anymore." She muttered, but it was loud enough that I heard.

"Yeah, but it's not like I will ever love you." I sneer.

She looked up at me. "I don't care if you'll ever love me. I'll never love you either. You-" She was cut off when mother and father climbed into the car.

"Welcome to your new family." Father said, smirking darkly at her.

I led her around the house before stopping in front of her new room. It's right next to mine, so I'll have to hear her sobs every night while I try to sleep… Perfect.

I opened the door and Rosa walked in without hesitation and closed the door when I went to step in. "Rosaline Vale, open this door now."

"No."

"Rosa, let me in or I'll kick down the door." I threaten.

"Do it!" She screamed back.

I grit my teeth and pull out my gun. Shot the doorknob and kicked the door open. Rosa screamed in horror.

Mother and father ran down the hall. "Lucian! What the hell did you just do?" Mother yelled.

"This little-... disappointment locked me out."

Mother glared at me while Father turned to Rosa. "You dare lock doors in this house? Rule one, no locked doors. Two, you stay by Lucian all day, all night, all the time…"

Father continued to list the rules, but I drowned him out when he said 'all night'. I swear, if he means that I have to sleep in the same room as this prickly cactus, then I'm jumping out the window.

"-So no dinner tonight." Mother snapped at Rosa, who was already fighting tears. Such a wimp. If she wants to live, then she's going to have to learn how to take harsh words and push them aside.

"Y-yes ma'am," She stuttered.

"Now," Father turned on his heels to face me. "Show her where she is really staying, and fix this door."

"Where is… she really staying?"

"In your room of course. You're about to get married, so you need to learn to get along."

Awesome…
