Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 The Chasers

The air inside the restaurant still smelled of dust, blood, and burnt wood, Glass shards scattered, tables shattered, and the bodies of the pursuers lay lifeless.

Dex stood in the middle of the room, his breath steady, his gaze cold, He turned to the only pursuer still breathing, The man's body was crushed, thick blood flowed from his mouth, but his eyes still burned with hatred.

Dex approached, his steps calm but intimidating. "Hey you" he said in an annoyed tone. "If you still want to live a little longer, hand over all your money now"

The pursuer spat blood, laughing bitterly. "Damn it, I didn't expect Princess Anna to have a bodyguard as strong as you"

Dex frowned. "What nonsense are you talking about? Hurry up and hand over your money."

The man snorted, even though his body was almost destroyed. "You won't get any information from me, I'd rather die than betray my master"

Before Dex could reply, the man bit something in his mouth, a tooth filled with poison.

His body stiffened, then went limp, black foam coming from his lips.

"Huh?" Dex looked confused. "Did he just say information? looks like he misunderstood, I just asked for money"

Dex sighed, then waved his hand, The wind swirled, lifting the corpses and piling them in one corner of the room. After that, Dex crouched, beginning to search their pockets with a flat but focused expression.

"Excuse me" a soft voice sounded behind him, Anna stood awkwardly, her face still pale, while Liana looked at Dex with sharp, wary eyes.

Dex didn't turn. His hands busily flipped cloth pouches, pulling out gold coins and a few small jewels. "Hmm, wow, these guys aren't bad at all"

Anna fell silent, waiting, But when Dex kept ignoring her, she finally spoke again. "Once again, thank you for helping us earlier"

Dex ignored her, instead whistling softly when he found a large pouch full of gold. "Heh, jackpot."

Anna stared blankly, not knowing whether to feel relieved or afraid, Liana only shook her head slightly, murmuring softly. "This man, either crazy or simply doesn't care about us"

After finishing, Dex weighed the pouch full of coins in his left hand, Heavy and satisfying. "Hahaha turns out they were quite rich too. Maybe chasing a noble does bring a lot of profit"

Anna wanted to reply, but that sentence only made her heart ache even more.

Dex stood up, then suddenly turned toward Anna. "By the way, did you see the old man who owns this shop?"

Anna blinked. "You mean the owner?"

"Yeah, I intend to pay for the damage, Besides, his chicken noodles were pretty good, It'd be a shame if his shop stayed ruined like this"

Anna lowered her head for a moment, then replied softly, "While you were fighting them, I think he ran outside, maybe to call the city guards."

Dex fell silent, then touched his chin as if thinking seriously, After a few seconds, he took five gold coins from the large pouch and placed them in Anna's hand. "Then, give this to him later, Just say it's compensation from me"

Anna looked at the coins in confusion. "But…"

Before she could finish her sentence, Dex had already turned away. "Just think of it as my revenge for having my breakfast ruined"

Anna wanted to stop him, but her tongue froze, The only thing that came out was, "Thank you"

Dex didn't turn, just raised his right hand casually. "Yeah, yeah"

Anna watched his back as he walked away, then whispered, "A strange man"

Liana sighed. "Strange, but dangerous, defeating dozens of third-rankers from each class, that's truly remarkable"

---

A few moments later.

Dex walked out of the narrow alley, strolling through the streets of Millhaven with weary steps, But this time his face was sour, even worse than when he hadn't had breakfast.

He patted his stomach. "Damn, I'm starving"

His stomach growled softly, making his expression even gloomier. "The worst day of the week, and just when I finally found familiar food"

Suddenly a familiar voice came from behind.

"Hey, why are you walking like someone who just lost a bet?"

Dex lifted his head, Van walked casually toward him, carrying a plastic bag in his hand, His smile wide, clearly just back from the market or a food stall.

"I just lost half my life" Dex replied faintly.

Van raised an eyebrow. "Huh?"

Dex shook his head. "Never mind anyway, what's that you're carrying?"

"Oh, this?" Van lifted the bag. "Chicken noodles, I stopped by to buy some this morning, I've had it before, it's pretty good, so I thought..."

WHUUM!

Before Van could finish his sentence, the wind whooshed violently, In the blink of an eye, the bag had moved to Dex's hand, The young man ran as fast as lightning, even faster than Van's eyes could follow.

"Wha?! You're insane, Dex!" Van shouted in shock.

Dex had already opened the bag, the aroma of chicken noodles rising in steam, and his eyes shone like a child finding a new toy. "Haaaa, this is the justice of the world!"

Van stared in disbelief. "Hey give me back my food Dex"

Dex dodged Van's grab swiftly.

Dex looked at him for a moment, his face completely serious. "Van, there are three things that can't be disturbed in a man's life, sleep, prayer… and food."

Van covered his face with his palm. "I regret bringing this"

Dex held out one gold coin toward Van, making him stop instantly and cough lightly. "yeah, since you wanted it so badly it's fine"

Dex didn't care. He sat on a bench by the roadside, opened the bamboo chopsticks, then began eating the chicken noodles solemnly.

The first bite entered his mouth. His eyes closed, a peaceful expression appeared on his stern face. "Still as good as before, even more delicious because I can finish it now"

Van could only stand there with his mouth open, then finally chuckled softly. "You're the strangest person I've ever met"

Dex glanced briefly. "And you're the luckiest, because you got to witness the miracle of chicken noodles."

Van exhaled deeply, giving up. "Alright, let's go back to the inn before you cause another problem"

Dex didn't answer, He was busy enjoying his meal, completely forgetting all the chaos he had just caused.

But far across the city, news of the brutal battle in the old restaurant had already spread quickly. The name of a mysterious young man who could destroy a group of noble pursuers using only wind magic began to circulate.

And without him realizing it, the footsteps of fate were already leading him closer into the vast vortex of politics and war he had been trying to avoid.

But for now, Dex had only one simple thought.

"Food this good should exist every day"
