Without a moment's pause, I trailed behind Emilio as we headed directly back to the imposing Zaid Hall.
The instant I crossed the threshold, my gaze fell upon Charline positioned pathetically beside Danna, while a house servant delicately applied ice to her injured face. The treatment appeared futile though. Charline's features remained grotesquely swollen and discolored, creating a genuinely disturbing sight.
The part that truly surprised me was discovering that Charline had actually made the journey to Zaid Hall specifically to lodge her complaints with Barnes and Danna.
In that tense moment, Soren maintained his silent vigil before Danna, his facial expression completely impossible to decipher.
The second Soren's eyes found mine, they seemed to sparkle with an arctic fury that sliced straight through my composure.
"What brings you here?"
Emilio, who had been standing at my side, appeared momentarily stunned.
