This time, Zephyr didn't hesitate. The moment Sceptile appeared, Zephyr raised his arm, revealing the Key Stone on his wrist.
Rainbow-colored light enveloped Sceptile. When the light faded, Mega Sceptile stood on the field for the second time in the National League.
Zephyr looked at Kenji calmly, waiting for his next move.
Mega Sceptile wasn't just quad-resistant to Electric attacks due to its Grass/Dragon typing; it also possessed the Ability Lightning Rod, which granted immunity to all Electric moves.
No matter how strong Electivire was, without its Electric attacks, how much fighting power did it have left?
However, while Mega Sceptile feared no lightning, it had a fatal 4x weakness to Ice.
Given Electivire's fighting style, there was a high probability it knew the elemental punches—Ice Punch, Fire Punch, and Thunder Punch. And indeed, Electivire seemed to love punching almost as much as it loved zapping things.
This was why Zephyr had hesitated to send Sceptile out earlier. He had intended to wear Electivire down with his other Pokémon first, forcing Kenji to switch once his electric tank was weakened.
But to his surprise, the first half ended, and Electivire showed zero signs of fatigue. In fact, it seemed more energetic the longer it fought. This was entirely thanks to the Hand of Justice item, which provided constant healing. Items like Hand of Justice and Bloodthirster were true sweep enablers.
The audience, knowledgeable about Pokémon mechanics, buzzed with anticipation. They knew about Mega Sceptile's Lightning Rod.
Would Kenji stubbornly keep Electivire in, or would he switch to his third Pokémon?
So far, Kenji had only used Slaking and Electivire.
Slaking was strong, but it hadn't fully matured yet—not even reaching Elite level. It was great for stomping noobs, but against a Mega Sceptile, it would struggle. The chance of Kenji swapping it in was low.

As the electricity surged into its body, the yellow seeds on its back began to glow.
Lightning Rod activated. Upon entry, it absorbed the opponent's terrain to boost its own Special Attack.
Kenji paused for a moment, then raised his hand to recall Electivire.
"Return, Electivire."
Although it hadn't taken much damage, maintaining Thunder Armor for so long had drained a significant amount of stamina. Fighting a Mega Evolved Ace buffed by Zephyr's ability without Electric moves would be an uphill battle.
Kenji reached for another Poké Ball at his waist.
"It's showtime!! Go!!! Gyarados!!"
The ball burst open, and red light shot onto the field.
"ROAAAARRRR!!!!"
Before the light even fully materialized, a deafening roar exploded across the arena.
"Ha... Haya!!"
Mega Sceptile's pupils shrank to pinpoints. Instinctively, it took two steps back, staring at the forming shape with eyes full of wariness and dread.
BOOM!!!
The red light shattered, revealing the colossal form of Gyarados. The moment it appeared, it slammed its tail onto the ground.
Rumble... The entire stadium shook.
A terrifying pressure, thick and heavy like a tsunami, rolled off Gyarados and crushed down on everything in the vicinity.
Mega Sceptile found it hard to breathe. Its hands trembled slightly. A seed of primal fear took root in its heart, shaking its will to fight.
It wasn't just Mega Sceptile—the audience fell silent in unison.
Adults felt a chill run down their spines. Children squeezed their eyes shut and buried their faces in their parents' chests.
Since breaking through to the Gym Leader level (Level 60+), the chemical reaction between Gyarados's natural Pressure and its Intimidate Ability had become horrifyingly potent.
