Lyra and Kael found themselves in a small, dimly lit chamber. The air was musty, and the walls were covered in dust. Lyra coughed, covering her mouth with her sleeve.
"This place hasn't been used in a while," Kael said, his voice low.
Lyra nodded, her eyes adjusting to the darkness. She saw old furniture, covered in cobwebs, and a large, ornate mirror hanging on the wall.
"Let's see if we can find anything useful," Kael said, beginning to search the room.
Lyra joined him, opening drawers and searching through old trunks. They found old clothes, rusty keys, and a small, leather-bound book.
"This might be useful," Lyra said, opening the book.
The pages were yellowed and worn, but the writing was still legible. Lyra's eyes widened as she read the words.
"What is it?" Kael asked, noticing her expression.
"It's a prophecy," Lyra said, her voice barely above a whisper. "It talks about a great evil that will destroy our world unless we find a way to stop it."
Kael's eyes locked onto hers. "What does it say about the curse?" he asked.
Lyra scanned the pages, her eyes moving quickly. "It says that the curse can be broken, but it will require a great sacrifice," she said.
Kael's expression turned grim. "What kind of sacrifice?" he asked.
Lyra hesitated, unsure of how to answer. "I'm not sure," she said. "But I think we're about to find out."
As they continued to read the prophecy, they heard a loud noise coming from the tunnel. The guards had found the hidden door.
"We need to get out of here," Kael said, grabbing Lyra's hand.
They ran to the mirror, and Kael touched a hidden button. The mirror swung open, revealing a secret passage.
"In here," Kael said, pulling Lyra through the opening.
As they stumbled through the passage, Lyra realized that she had no idea where they were going. But she knew that she was with Kael, and together, they would face whatever lay ahead.
The passage twisted and turned, leading them deeper into the heart of the castle. Lyra's heart was pounding, and she could hear the guards closing in.
Suddenly, the passage opened up into a large, cavernous space. Lyra's eyes widened as she looked around. They were in a beautiful, ancient temple.
But they didn't have time to admire the beauty of the temple. The guards were closing in, and Lyra could see the king standing behind them.
"You can't escape," the king said, his voice cold. "You'll do what I say, or you'll suffer the consequences."
Lyra stood tall, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that she had to make a choice. Would she give in to her father's demands, or would she fight back?
