Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Aya’s Fate

Aya Kobayashi—SRX team leader, telekinetic, stepdaughter of SBI director Kenzo Kobayashi, handling SRX's fusion control. A key figure. Lamia mentioned the SRX team exists here, but without Aya, who maintains the telekinetic field during fusion? Another telekinetic?

"No clue," I mutter, staring at Aya's brain in the cylinder. It recalls a Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 scene where Aya was kidnapped by Balmar—or Aerogators here—her brain preserved in a cylinder. That was a dummy; this feels real. Can Earth's tech sustain a brain alone? The Inspectors occupied Earth, and their tech rivals the Aerogators'. Likely an Inspector relic.

"Inspector legacy," I sigh, glancing at the unconscious director. He must know about Aya's brain. I approach the sofa, slapping his cheek.

"Ugh…"

"Awake?"

Still groggy, I slap again.

"Ow! Who are you? What're you doing in my office!?"

"Finally lucid. I've got questions. No right to silence."

Panicked, he squirms as I grip his scrawny arm. "Let go! It hurts!"

"Understand your position? I know you're tied to DC remnants and terrorists. Show me evidence."

Aya's issue waits—killing him before answers would ruin everything.

"No idea what you're talking about," he denies, eyes darting, sweat beading.

"Really? Lie, and I'll adjust my approach. No DC or terrorist ties?"

I recall my slime's auto-search ability. Aya's brain rattled me—still green.

"Of course not! You think you can do this? I'm SBI's director, connected to the Federation! I'll report this to Lieutenant Colonel Hans!"

Hans Viper, the arrogant incompetent at Izu Base. In the original, he defected to DC. Here, he's still Federation. The director's revealed his backer. More leaks would help.

"Hans, huh? Who else do you know?"

"No need to tell you! Get out!"

He's shrill but sharp, likely realizing I'm fishing. Too late.

"Before I go, let's see something fun."

"Fun?" He gapes.

"A magic trick. One, two, three!"

I snap my fingers, deploying spatial storage. Silver slime extends.

"What's that!?" he shrieks.

Soundproofing should cover us, but he's loud. "Magic. No tricks."

Grinning, I scan the room with slime. Seconds later, I detect an anomaly—a wall section thicker than the rest, hiding a 50cm-square space. I snap again, cutting it open.

The director's speechless. Inside, a hidden safe holds a thick stack of papers and labeled disks: "DC," "Others." Meticulous.

"Director, I warned you about consequences," I say, tossing the disks into storage.

"You're—"

I grab the papers, titled Artificial Telekinetic Creation and Enhancement. Like Gundam's enhanced humans?

"More questions. This report, that brain."

"No, I don't know! Someone planted it!" he squeals. "I'm innocent! Call Hans!"

I wrap his wrist in slime, dissolving slowly. "Talk, or I keep going. Bones next."

The mercury slime hides the damage, but the sensation breaks him in seconds. "Stop! I'll talk! Please!"

Tears and snot stream as I release him. His hand's red, skin partially melted. He wails. I activate my recorder.

"Quiet. You're free. Talk."

"I… I've been leaking info and supplies to DC and terrorists. The disks are ledgers."

"And Hans?"

"He pulls strings for me. I give him twenty percent."

Enough to implicate Hans, though not definitive. I stop recording.

"Now, the brain."

"She was an experiment. We tried enhancing telekinesis artificially, but it failed. She never woke. Killing her was an option, but a telekinetic brain's rare. Hans got Inspector tech—a machine to keep her alive. Those cables."

He grows manic, excited. Disgusting.

"Enough. You're scum."

No snap this time. Slime surges, becoming blades. Mercury moves at hyperspeed, slicing orichalcum—or a human—into dozens of pieces. A fitting end for scum.

"Evidence secured. Now for T-LINK data."

I shove computers and documents into storage, leaving the sofa, desk, corpse fragments, and cylinder.

"Keeping you alive like this is cruel. Become my strength."

Slime engulfs the cylinder, absorbing it.

A jolt hits—like when I absorbed Ryoto. The second ability absorption still feels alien. I collapse for a minute, recovering faster than before. Breathing deeply, I check my status. Telekinesis Lv.7 appears.

"May your next life be happier."

I pray briefly for Aya, then leave.
