The night was still young. Felix and Mercedes, we're having the time of their lives. They excused themselves to take a walk together. Hand in hand, they strolled further away from where the celebration was. Felix took off his suit and placed it over Mercedes's shoulders. Not that she was feeling cold because werewolves hardly ever get cold, but it was a gentlemanly thing to do, and he wanted to take care of her.
She thanked him and smiled. They continued to walk together in comfortable silence, taking in the cool night breeze. Both of them had plenty to say but neither knew how to say it. Felix was overwhelmed with joy. He was happy that he could now call Mercedes his Luna with pride. He is thankful that that night she was attacked by rogues. She survived and landed up in his pack.
" Thank you for coming into my life." He held both of her delicate hands in his large ones. A smile appeared on his face and he reached for her cheek. His palm softly landed on her cheek. He stroked it tenderly. It was a peaceful moment where it felt like it was just the two of them. They stared into each other's eyes and understood everything that they wanted to say. Slowly, Felix leaned his head down to her face, giving her a chance to pull away, but she stood still. She closed her eyes as she felt his hot minty breath fan her face. He hesitated to kiss her, but he shook away his worries and, finally, his lips landed on her plump soft ones.
It was like a thousand fireworks were set off. He wrapped his arm around her waist and his hand remained on her cheek as she deepened the kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and they continued to kiss without caring who might see them. Felix's tongue probed against her lips for permission to enter and Mercedes gladly granted him entrance. He explored every corner of her mouth and pulled her closer to himself than she already was.
Feeling breathless, they broke apart without letting each other go. Mercedes took a good look at the man in front of her. She thought of how he was the one to receive her first kiss. He must be the love of her life. That's what she promised herself long ago. She promised all her first to the man who she would spend the rest of her life with. And here he was, right in front of her, looking dashingly handsome.
It seemed the moon was shining on her and fate was smiling at her. She won't be alone anymore and her days of suffering have ended. Even so, a part of her could not help but feel pain because of how her life took this turn. Her parents were no longer alive to share in her happiness.
Felix noticed that something was bothering her. He placed his finger under her chin, making her look at him.
" What seems to be the problem? Tell me,"
" It's nothing. I am suddenly overcome with sadness because my family is not here with me. "
He stayed silent and shared in her pain. He took her hand in his, and they just stood together, staring at the moon. Both of them were conveying their silent grievances. Felix was sad that his mother and father were not present for the best moment of his life. He tries not to think about them too much, but hearing Mercedes mention family, their vivid image flashed in his mind. The image he badly wanted to suppress and wipe out of his memory. As if he could.
The image of his dead parents made him wince and unconsciously tighten his grip on Mercedes's hand. He had not told her about his parents and was grateful that she never asked. He was not yet ready to relive that day. Besides, he didn't want to turn the lively, joyous atmosphere into a gloomy one. It was a tale for another time.
Mercedes looked at him with his eyes closed but didn't question him. She just stared at their joined hands and squeezed back to show that she was right beside him offering support and comfort. Realizing that he was squeezing her hand for dear life, he quickly regained his composure and let go of her hand.
Breathing heavily, he said," I am so sorry. I didn't realize... did I hurt you?" he grabbed her delicate hand and inspected it with care. She looked at him and gave him a small but reassuring smile before shaking her head.
" If it were my old self, you would have broken my bones, but surprisingly, I'm fine. I guess it comes with being a werewolf." He smiled back at her attempt to lighten the mood. He was relieved though that he didn't hurt her as he feared. He tends to forget that she is strong and not weak like when she first arrived. He raised his hand and carried her head tenderly. His eyes were brimming with passion and love that he wished he could boundlessly express.
He opted to wait for the right time to say all that he is currently holding back. For now, he just pulled them in his arms and enjoyed the comfort of her body close to his. She, too, laid her head on his strong chest and felt like she was in the clouds. In his arms, she found her haven. She feared and feared nothing when she was close to him. It still felt like she was dreaming. She pinched herself several times to confirm if she was asleep or conscious, but it made no difference. She just hoped and prayed that if it was a dream then it would be a dream that she never woke from.
After a few minutes of embracing each other, they walked back to the celebration hand in hand. It went on for a couple more hours until they called it a night. Everyone slowly retreated to their houses and the Alpha and new Luna of the pack went to sleep as well. They reluctantly parted ways in their respective rooms, but neither could sleep a wink. Both of them tossed and turned, but sleep evaded them. They were thinking about each other that they were anxious and wanted to see each other, but they were afraid to make a move. Felix finally snapped and decided that he was going to see her. Unbeknownst to the fact, Mercedes had decided on the same. Both of them were surprised to see each other in the hallway.
