In the past, I was the perfect child every mother dreamed of. Steve was the role model, the excellent student, the obedient son. Mothers from all over the neighborhood would come to my mother, Catherine, to ask her secret to raising me. But all that changed after tragedy.
Three years ago, my mother, lori, died of a sudden illness. After the funeral, my father changed into a different person—he was taciturn, I never saw him laugh once, and he didn't care for me the way he used to. Even though I'd lost my mother, I tried to fight back. I cried a lot, but I was ready to fight. But when you see your father give up, you give up too.
I became a lazy, fat person with low grades. My friends, who used to play with me, now pick on me. And I understand them, because when I see myself in the mirror, I pick on myself too! Even anime, which was my only refuge, couldn't change anything.
But things changed last Friday. When I saw my father smile for the first time in years, I felt there was hope. I tried as much as I could to keep up with this change, to get back to the way I was. But that morning, at school, everyone was laughing at me because of a video that was circulating on social media. It was a video of me dancing a stupid dance in my pajamas!
At 8:30 PM, I was waiting outside the school as usual for my dad to pick me up, but he didn't show up, so I had to walk back. I was tired, breathing heavily, and my face was as red as a fresh tomato.
When I got home, I went into my room where no one could see me and destroyed everything to relieve some of the pain. I turned on the computer to vent my anger at Victor again, but it wouldn't turn on. I guess he'd abandoned me, too! But that night, when I saw my dad putting the covers over me while I slept, I smiled until I choked on my snot!
______________
In the garage, I tried to think of a way out of this predicament. Noah looked at me and said, "What's wrong with you, Bob, these days?"
I replied, "I remember this place! This is where I was kidnapped. Someone drugged me and forced me to run naked!"
He looked at me suspiciously. "Are you sure?"
"One hundred percent! I remember this being my own blood. I think I cut myself!"
Noah, putting on his leather jacket as straight as ever, said, "We'll see everything on the cameras."
Well, good luck with that!
Honestly, the way Noah stood and his leather jacket in Las Vegas, as well as his serious expression, reminded me of...
Forget it. Anyway, when we entered the lounge, Frank was hanging, his face like a rotten tomato. This is the person who kidnapped me, I know that, I said confidently. After searching the crime scene, we found no fingerprints or any evidence of the killer. Hahaha! I'm invincible!
The old woman came out, and we questioned her. Surprisingly, she wasn't blind in the first place! She was pretending. She didn't show it to the investigators, but when I hacked into her phone this morning, I saw a video of her cooking and playing with a knife in a way a blind person couldn't.but she deleted it, I think she was happy that I did her a favor.
Noah and I sat in front of her, and I was sure she wouldn't say anything, even though she saw me, because she seemed happy with what she'd done to Frank. She talked a lot but without involving me in it. She talked about the sound of bullets and the chaos that happened here and that was it. I guess that's what humans call luck.
But then she suddenly said, "I smelled like a machine in the house at the time of the murder!"
Noah said calmly, "Try it again."
I tried, and she did smell me! But it was just urine! (Shame, but better!)
After that, we went out to investigate the gang that tried to kill me, and we gathered important information on them. I'll take care of them later.
I tried to back out, but Noah, with his usual seriousness, said, "Where the hell do you think you're going?"
They put me in the interrogation room. I was now the prime suspect and the most likely to be the killer.
Which I am!
