Chapter 26 - Chapter 4.3 - Dance For Me

The holographic floor rippled under my weight, waves of light chasing each step. "Please select a track," the machine chimed as the massive screen blinked alive, offering a list of songs, ranked by difficulty: green, yellow, orange, red.

"For you?" Jun Ho picked the red one. "Song - Call Me, Darling."

"Holy shit! for real? sigh* guess i have to....." I stomped into rhythm, the floor pulsing beneath me. Boom, boom, boom… ♫ This street's too damn tight~ Crowds closing in so fast~ Every moment we get close, ooh, it's like—boom, boom, boom! ♫

From the corner of my eye, the beautiful insect dissolved into Jun Ho's shirt, melding with the leather like an embroidery stitch pattern.

And there he watched me.

Seokjin, the man too stubborn to quit, pouring sweat and soul into every step. Honest eyes, too pure for this industry. He reminded Jun Ho of himself, long ago, training juniors who had long since betrayed him. Yet here was someone real. Someone who believed hard work could still mean something.

Hours bled by. Seokjin trained from noon to evening without a single meal, refusing to quit. Finally, Jun Ho stepped forward and shut the machine off.

"That's enough, tiger."

Seokjin staggered, panting. "Wh-what? I barely got started."

"You've been at it five hours straight." Jun Ho lifted his watch.

"Damn… thought I could go further."

"This is just day one. You've still got a week," Jun Ho reminded him.

"For me, a week feels too short. I need to use every second," Seokjin muttered, wiping his forehead.

"Hungry? Let's grab food," Jun Ho said, reaching for his motorcycle keys.

"Whatever you like. I could swallow anything." Seokjin grinned, his silver hair sticking to his temples.

"Anything?" Jun Ho bit his lip, gaze flicking toward the fallen sun outside. Just then, the butterfly tore from his shirt, sucked into the vents—shredded by spinning blades. Green ichor sprayed into the air, wings falling like ash.

VROOOM!

Jun Ho's bike roared from the underground tunnel. I climbed on behind him, catching a stray wing in my palm by chance.

"Hold on tight!" Jun Ho shouted over the engine, twisting the throttle.

"Let's go~" I whooped as the bike launched forward into the city blaze.
