Sela and the figure rolled around before she threw him off and launched herself off the ground, light emitting from her body, chasing the shadows away.
The figure that stood before was a menacing man, standing taller than Midas. He had long black hair, with eyes as red and violet as fire. He wore a black mantle over his clothing, allowing him to blend into darkness easily. His face was contorted in rage, and he had a thin scar on his face, from his eyebrow to his chin.
Sela raised her sword to meet the mysterious man, and he raised his fists. Before Sela can react, the man yelled, his veins bulging, as he charged at her, grappled her head, and brought it down on the concrete with a loud CRACK.
Blood pooled from under her skull. She was dead.
Midas walked forward, and put a hand on the shoulder of the shaking man.
"Calm down Harrow. I don't need you rampaging through the whole block."
The man shook, and he released his hands from a fist to open palms.
"Right, sorry Midas. Anger got to me, you know?"
Midas nodded, and was about to reply, but I interrupted him.
"Um, excuse me? Midas? Who is that? You dated a member of the God-force as a sinner? And you just murdered these people!? And who is Mesa, and why would she try and bait you into a trap?"
Midas looked at me.
"Perhaps we should leave the crime scene, and go to my house, where we can discuss things privately."
Midas did not wait for my answer. He called a taxi, which whisked us away.
"Might as well explain some of the more public topics while driving, to save time. The man in the front seat is Harrow. He is a friend of mine, and a Crime Lord. He was following us to make sure I remained safe, and with good reason. After my contact reported seeing Sela, I knew she was trying to make a move to arrest me."
"Did you really do all that to her family?"
"She abandoned me on our first date after discovering that I was a sinner, a Crime Lord of the Underworld no less, so she left and came back to arrest me. What was I supposed to do, let her think there was no consequence to her attempting to arrest me?"
"What abo-"
"I'll tell you the rest later, when we have no one eavesdropping."
He pointed to the driver.
"He could be working for anybody."
"Don't the Crime Lords work together?"
"No. Some actually hate each other. I happened to make good friends with Harrow before, so he works with me."
There was a long and uncomfortable pause. Finally, I decided to make some conversation.
"Is there any way to make some money around here? All the places were either dangerous are flat out rejected me."
"I can offer you a job, should you accept my terms."
Midas glanced out the window, growing concerned.
"But i'll tell you more when we are at my house."
"How can I trust you? We just met, and you killed a much of people. You might be dangerous."
Midas looked at me, and forced a smile.
"Listen kid. Out of everybody who wants you, I'm the best option. The other Crime Lords would've grappled you off the street, but I talked to you first. The God-force wants you, but only because now you know me, and they want the information. So let me explain some things at my house, and if you don't trust me, things will turn ugly."
Before I could respond, we pulled up to a mansion. It had golden gates, neatly trimmed hedges, and fountains spraying liquid gold. A man in a suit and waistcoat was standing behind the gates. Midas got out of the cab, and turned to me.
"This is my home."
