Chapter 3 - Want a divorce

By noon, Evelyn got dressed and made her way downstairs.

She passed by the laundry maid who couldn't hide the pity in her eyes.

Evelyn gave her a small smile as she walked passed. She took a deep breath to calm down.

It was so embarrassing for everyone to know you were being cheated on. Nathan was a total b*stard.

She calmly made her way downstairs and walked out of the house, getting into the backseat of the waiting car.

Without waiting for her words, the driver headed straight to Jade plaza, a mall under the Hale group.

Evelyn sat calmly in her seat because she had already guessed this would happen.

The driver parked outside the mall and she went in alone.

The front desk lady immediately recognized her.

"Mrs Hale! Are you here for anything in particular? Do you need help?"

Evelyn waved her hand casually.

"No need. I'm just here for a look."

The lady kept on smiling.

"Call if you need anything."

Evelyn made a sound of acknowledgement and walked off.

She made her way across several isles, checking things as she went as though she really just came here to window shop.

Without avoiding the cameras, she made her way to the second and then third floor of the building.

She had been wandering for almost thirty minutes and decided it was time to take a break. She called a waiter and reserved a private room.

After placing her order, the waiter went out and she waited for a few minutes then snuck into the private room next door.

She closed the door behind her and collapsed on the chair with a deep sigh. It was hard work sneaking around. She wondered how Nathan managed it so well.

After drinking a glass of water, she now had the strength to regard the other person in the room.

"Uncle Xavier"

Xavier assessed her with slight amusement in his eyes. Much to his relief, she didn't look too bad.

"What is it that you needed help with and couldn't say over the phone?"

Evelyn immediately lost her playful attitude.

"Uncle, I want to get a divorce."

Xavier's brows shot up. He knew very well how much she cared for that husband of hers. To calmly ask for a divorce now, something irreparable must've happened between them.

"Did he do something?"

Evelyn hummed softly.

"I found a lipstick print on his shirt the other day. I already had someone check it out for me but I'm more than 90% sure."

Xaviet didn't persuade her. Infact, he was quite proud. If that person had been able to calmly let go then..maybe things would be different now. A wry smile made its way to his lips.

"You look so much like your mother yet you act nothing like her. Fortunately, or else I wouldn't know what to do with you."

Evelyn managed a small smile. Her parents had never been her favorite topic of conversation but she understood why he brought it up.

Her mother had trapped her father in a loveless marriage. One which he couldn't escape from even after her death.

Her will stated that if he were to remarry or have any blood related children with someone other than her, everything he had—which was hers, would be donated to charity.

One would think Evelyn would feel bad for him but she didn't. She would rather retain her sympathy for herself. After all, he wasn't a good person either.

She glanced subtly at Xaviet sitting opposite her. Why must a girl choose her own love? Why couldn't she just choose who loved her instead?

While her father was out philandering about with who knows who, uncle Xavi was willing to help her because of his feelings for her mom.

It was a bit sad. He was already in on the years but had never had a girlfriend or ever gotten married. He was like a dedicated second male lead who could only secretly guard his feelings for the female lead till death.

Not wanting to think of these things, she shook her head lightly.

She suddenly remembered something else and dug into her purse. She brought out a white pill wrapped in a transparent leather bag and placed it on the table.

"Uncle Xavier could you please have a lab run tests on these and tell me what they're for?"

Xavier took the pill from her and frowned.

"Who's is this?"

Evelyn smiled with a hint of sarcasm.

"Those are my 'supliments'"

Xavier instantly understood that because she was on guard against Nathan now, many things seemed suspicious. He didn't think that boy Natahn would be brave enough to drug her but just to give her peace of mind, he promised to have it checked out properly.

Seeing as they had finished their discussion and time was fast spent, Evelyn bid him farewell.

"Goodbye uncle Xavi. I'll come get the divorce papers some other day. Take care of yourself."

She went back to her private room and forced herself to eat a few bites from the now cold dishes then had the waiter come and clear the rest.

After doing this, she walked downstairs slowly and went to the previously visited clothing isle. Now she had to find something to buy before going back. And she couldn't just buy something casually or else he would notice.

She wasn't able to find any dresses that she particularly liked so she went to check out the bag collection.

Looking around, she managed to find something in the end. It was a milksih-white handbag that could double as a crossing bag and had a string of pearls at the front.

She took a liking to it immediately and checked it out. She greeted the front desk on her way out looking much happier than when she first came in.

The driver was still conscientiously waiting outside and when she got into the backseat, he drove back to the house without a word.
