Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: Sum of Fears

The day before the wedding, Tyra was gripped by fear. The anonymous calls, threats, and photos kept coming—each more damning than the last. One image showed her pouring oil on the staircase minutes before Luisa slipped and Lord Martin fell. Another revealed the re-autopsy findings: Lord Martin had died from a drug overdose, not the fall. He had only been comatose—he could have been saved.

Tyra forgot she was supposed to meet Edward for a custom necklace fitting and food tasting. She was still reading the documents when Edward arrived.

"What are you holding?" he asked casually.

"It's nothing, sweetheart. Just some flyers I picked up," she lied, hiding her panic.

Food Tasting – Golden Cup Café

"Are you okay, Tyra?" Edward asked, noticing her unease.

"Y-yes, I'm fine," she stammered, forcing a smile.

"Did you see the wedding gown I sent? You seem… off today."

"Oh yes, I love it so much, Hon," she replied, smiling weakly.

"Old folks say it's bad luck to wear the gown before the wedding. Superstition or not, there's wisdom in those sayings."

"Edward, don't be ridiculous. That's nonsense."

"Okay…" Edward said, unconvinced.

"I need to use the restroom," Tyra said, feeling her phone vibrate.

Restroom – Call from the Unknown Number

"Hello?"

"Ready for a bigger surprise? I heard there's a document delivery at the café. You wouldn't want Edward to see it, would you? If I were you, I'd head to him now and block what's about to be exposed," the voice taunted.

"Who are you?! What do you want—money? Fine, let's meet!" Tyra's voice trembled.

"Money? I don't take cash from murderers. Edward ordered kopi luwak, right? I'll make sure he gets a copy of everything you've been burning. Don't worry—I have millions of backups."

The call ended with laughter.

Tyra rushed back to the table and saw a black leather folio. She knocked over Edward's coffee, soaking the documents.

"What are you doing?" Edward snapped.

The café owner rushed over, visibly nervous.

"I'm sorry, Edward. I got dizzy," Tyra said with a forced smile.

"Did you read the documents?" the owner asked.

"Is it my fault I got dizzy? What's in those files anyway?" Tyra asked sarcastically.

"Ms. Tyra, it's a proposal for Lord Powers to invest in our company," Mr. Thomas replied nervously.

"I don't care. And don't expect my husband to invest in your dying business—it's a total waste," Tyra sneered.

"Tyra, stop. Behave yourself. We're not even married yet," Edward said, standing up and leaving in embarrassment.

Remote Hideout

"Boss, I did everything you asked," said Freddie Agullera, Vincent's hired agent.

"Good." Vincent tossed an envelope onto the table. "That's $100,000. I'll double it if you get the DNA results Dr. Gates is hiding. I want them before next week."

"No problem, boss. I've got this," Freddie replied, counting the money.

Hospital – Where Lauryn Is Confined

"Ma'am, your husband hasn't arrived yet?" the doctor asked.

"He said he had something important to do," Lauryn replied.

Vincent arrived.

"Where were you? The doctor's been looking for you," Lauryn asked.

"I was preparing our new home," he lied.

"Doc, how's my wife?"

"She's stable and recovering quickly. But one of the twins is weak due to nutrient deficiency. I'll prescribe supplements."

Vincent returned to the room and found Margaret—now Lauryn—sleeping peacefully.

"You monster, Edward. You don't deserve to be a husband, let alone a father. I'll be the one these children call 'Dad.' I'll erase you from our lives," Vincent whispered.

That night, they left the hospital. Vincent paid all expenses.

"Where are we going?" Lauryn asked.

"To our new home, my love. A place filled with hope and a bright future."

That Night – The Mansion

Vincent called Edward again—this time as the mysterious voice.

"Hello," Edward answered.

"I heard you're getting married. Aren't you going to check on Margaret and ask what she will think you marrying your ex?"

The reminder jolted Edward. He had assumed Margaret was still locked in the basement—seven months now. He rushed to check.

The Basement

"What do you mean she's gone?" Edward asked, trembling with rage.

"Lord Edward, we watched her closely. But one night, two men came and said you ordered her transfer your rest house in Sunset County," Jude explained.

Edward stormed into the basement. The memories flooded back—his cruelty, his rage, the suffering he inflicted. He stepped on a spent bullet casing and froze, remembering he had shot Margaret her in her leg twice.

He wanted to speak to Frances—but remembered he had banished her months ago.

Flashback – Frances vs. Tyra

"Edward, that old woman tried to hurt me," Tyra cried.

"Is that true, Frances?"

"Edward, I just—" Frances began.

"I caught her trying to free Margaret. I stopped her," Tyra sobbed.

"Edward, don't believe her. I followed all your orders. But starving Margaret for three days? That was too much. I just wanted to feed her, but Tyra blocked me and threw the food away. Edward, listen—Margaret is in danger—"

"Liar! You hurt me!" Tyra shouted, showing a wound she inflicted on herself.

Edward, blinded by rage, expelled Frances—the woman who had been like a mother to him.

Now, he was lost. The truth was beginning to surface—and it was nothing like he imagined.
