"Yue Elder!"
Hu Liena and Xie Yue stepped forward and gave a slight salute.
Ju Douluo gathered the fading soul power glow around him, revealing his figure.
His previously elegant hair was now a chaotic mess, faint traces of burnt smell drifting through the air. His luxurious robes were torn in several places. His already feminine face looked even darker and more stormy than usual.
He ignored the siblings' greeting. Holding down his rage, Ju Douluo growled,
"Where is that ungrateful little bastard, Yan?"
"Reporting to Elder—he's dead," Xie Yue answered quickly.
"What? Dead?" Ju Douluo's expression shifted, genuine surprise leaking out.
Xie Yue said, "When we escaped the Star Dou Forest, we were surrounded. He was killed by a soul beast's sneak attack."
Ju Douluo waved it off coldly.
"Good. That brat deserved it. No one else to blame. Just report the situation to the Pope when we return."
"Yes!"
Hu Liena and Xie Yue responded together.
Ju Douluo didn't care about Yan's life or death—he only regretted not beating the boy himself.
The reason the Hall didn't send a Soul Douluo but sent a titled powerhouse like him was because Pope Bibi Dong's personal disciple, Hu Liena, was part of the team.
"Hu Liena, how are you?" Ju Douluo asked. His previously icy tone softened a little.
Hu Liena answered calmly, "My body is unharmed. Thank you, Yue Elder, for your rescue. Without you, the three of us would have been wiped out. We will report your kindness to my teacher exactly as it happened."
Ju Douluo nodded with satisfaction and glared hatefully toward the Star Dou Forest.
"Titan Giant Ape… you just wait for this Douluo."
—
Meanwhile, deep in the Star Dou Forest—
A muscle-bound giant, like a walking boulder, rampaged through the trees. The Titan Giant Ape had several gashes across its body, but they were already crusted over.
Following a familiar aura, it reached a hidden spot in the forest and found a graceful young girl wearing men's clothes. Lowering its huge shoulder, it let the girl hop onto its back.
"Xiao Wu-jie, sorry. I let that damned human escape," the Titan Giant Ape's thunderous voice rumbled.
Xiao Wu looked at the wounds on its body, her heart tightening.
"Forget that. Are you okay?"
The Titan Giant Ape slammed its chest with a boom like war drums.
"Heh, I'm fine. It's just that the human was slippery like a fish—only knew how to run, didn't dare fight me head-on."
"Come on, let's head back first."
"Xiao Wu-jie… why are you wearing men's clothes?"
"Don't ask! You wouldn't understand even if I explained." Xiao Wu kicked the giant shoulder.
"Heh." Er Ming scratched his head with a silly grin.
Then Xiao Wu suddenly thought of something. Her jade-white teeth clenched, hatred flashing across her face.
"Er Ming, help me with something."
"What is it?"
BOOOOM!
A massive energy fist, several meters wide, tore through the black mist guarding the Hell Demon Hound. The beast was smashed into the ground, its scaled body covered in injuries.
"Titan Divine Punch!"
"Crack."
The Hell Demon Hound's blood-red eyes widened in terror. Its pupils shattered in fear. Under that overwhelming force, its entire body burst apart into powder—no bones left behind. A bottomless crater opened where it had been.
"That damned dog! You actually dared touch Xiao Wu-jie!"
The Titan Giant Ape roared violently, pounding the ground and sending shockwaves across the forest.
"All right, Er Ming, that's enough," Xiao Wu said calmly.
The Titan Giant Ape froze, then said dumbly,
"I almost lost my sister…"
"It's okay. I'm fine now."
"Xiao Wu-jie, how were you saved before? That beast was strong—far beyond what you can handle in your current infancy."
Xiao Wu seemed dazed. Her beautiful eyes turned complicated.
"I was saved by a human."
"A human?"
The Titan Giant Ape snorted, nostrils flaring.
"Hmph. Humans are all bad. They only know how to hunt soul beasts."
"Er Ming… I used to think the same. But this time is different."
"You know… this human who saved me and let me go—he knows I'm a hundred-thousand-year soul beast." Xiao Wu spoke dreamily.
"What?" Er Ming roared in disbelief.
"A human knows your identity? Then how could he possibly let you go?!"
"I know, right? It felt impossible."
Xiao Wu murmured, "A hundred-thousand-year soul beast is more precious to humans than any treasure. But he still let me leave."
Shock filled Er Ming's eyes. If Xiao Wu weren't the one saying it, he would've never believed such a human existed.
"Er Ming… do you think I could be friends with this human? He's really, really good…"
Xiao Wu asked softly, though her tone sounded more like someone remembering a dream.
"You… already have human friends, don't you?" Er Ming said.
Xiao Wu shook her head.
"It's different. They don't know who I really am. But this human… he's not the same. And I feel like I can learn something special from him."
Er Ming hesitated.
"What about your San-ge?"
Xiao Wu looked down.
"He only focuses on cultivation now. He doesn't care about anything else. And…"
She didn't continue. Her expression grew complex as images of Luo Yu and Tang San appeared in her mind. The feelings they stirred in her were completely different.
Toward Tang San—it felt more like sibling affection.
But toward Luo Yu… that sudden heartbeat, that spark—she couldn't describe it at all.
Right now, her heart was quietly longing for something—
She wanted to see him again.
Deeply.
Her heartbeat quickened, her face turned red, and she didn't know why. She had never experienced anything like this.
Er Ming noticed Xiao Wu holding her chest shyly and instinctively knew—this wasn't the time to interrupt.
"Er Ming, the treasure I asked you to hide last time—where is it?"
Xiao Wu's eyes sparkled brilliantly, her cheeks like blooming flowers.
"Buried by the lakeside. Big Brother is there. It's safe."
"Let's go!"
—
When they reached the lake, the Sky Blue Bull Python surfaced.
"Er Ming, take Xiao Wu-jie to the other side first."
The giant ape carried Xiao Wu far away.
"Xiao Wu-jie, the treasure you asked me to hide is right under this spot."
Xiao Wu nodded, her smile curving like a crescent moon.
Er Ming returned, confused.
"What's wrong, Big Brother?"
The Sky Blue Bull Python's massive fifteen-meter-long body slowly slid out of the lake. It first spread a gentle blue glow across the lake's surface, stabilizing it, then glared at Er Ming.
"What's wrong? You caused such a huge commotion—I'm beating you today."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The forest's tyrant, the Titan Giant Ape, was being pummeled brutally. Even its mountain-sized body couldn't match the bull python's size.
"Big Brother! I was helping Xiao Wu-jie vent her anger! I didn't do anything wrong!" Er Ming cried pitifully.
The bull python snorted.
"I never said you were wrong."
Then it glanced nervously at the lake's center. Seeing the blue barrier still stable, it whipped Er Ming again with its tail—smack!
—
Not far away, Xiao Wu watched the two idiots fighting. In her hands was a strange, varicolored treasure box—intricate, mysterious, and radiating an extraordinary aura.
Gazing up at the starry sky, Xiao Wu whispered in expectation,
"Zhuqing should know where he is…"
—
At this moment, Luo Yu was already on his way back to the academy. He'd retrieved his carriage and managed to get some food from the shop owner.
Using soul power to drive the reins, he held a fragrant braised pork elbow in his left hand and a pot of fine brewed liquor in his right.
As the stars faded and the red sun rose, Luo Yu suddenly felt his heart clear.
Everything around him was ordinary, yet a unique aura gently surfaced around him. Faint spiritual fluctuations rose quietly—
as though his heart and soul were undergoing a subtle ascension.
