There was a kind of expectation one have before opening their eyes.
The world which have always seem so dark would open up little by little until the a whole new array of colors , texture and objects overwhelmed and bringing joy.
It was the same for Winter.
A fairy stood in front of him , there was a soft smile on her face as she touched his face gently.
" Eyes as blue as the cold ocean, hair as white as snow , skin as cold as frost , character so warm it's like light on a cold day... I think I'll call you Winter "
"Winter..."
She let out a soft laugh and patted his cheek "The other silly goddess made a bet with me so I want you to win okay?"
Winter could vaguely understand what she was saying but his knowledge was still limited " What bet ?"
"To see who is a better ruler between you and her Huli Jing" She patted his cheek again , a bright light in her eyes "I made you a genius so you will have lots of knowledge , don't fail me okay ?"
Perhaps it was at that moment He should have realized that the gods never had anything good in mind except cruel jokes to amuse themselves.
Creations were nothing more than play things in their hands , most especially the demons who their feelings sometimes overtook their reasonings. It was a fact not a probability that he and Summer honest relationship was destined to end in such a complicated way.
He met Summer for the first time in the palace garden.
His hair was white as snow , his eyes as red as the blood , his lips were thin and in a soft smile , there was a rainbow robe on his body.
He thought that the man was beautiful and pure , a ray of light in darkness.
Summer raised his head and stared straight at him. At that moment time stood still and all they could do was focus on each other , trying to figure out why they had to be enemies.
He can still remember the first sentence that Summer had called out to him.
"You are so beautiful I want you "

They both became best friends in spite of the fact that they should be rivals trying to cut at each other throats.
They would take a stroll together at the Huli Jing market and talk about how to improve the civilians life.
Winter was smart and capable , he was good at formulating strategies and keeping everywhere in order , Summer was brute strength , he was the best warrior in the Huli Jing clan.
At that time the demon realm wasn't as powerful as it was now , It was fragmented and they only united under a common leader. Being a king didn't protect you since your clan can be swallowed anytime. This Paranoia about getting replaced lead to territory always fighting one another and frequent war outbreaks.
Summer was able to command the military but the pressure was too much on him ,he was often challenged by the soldiers and enemies Targeted him a lot. This problem often gave Winter sleepless nights, the only was Summer can be safe was to find someone who could be his equal and share the power equally with him; that way they would be each other hands and legs.
One night as they watched the stars , Summer suddenly came closer and touched his arm , his eyes were hazy .
"Winter..."
"Huh?"
"I like male and female demons"
The confession was aburt and jarring, however it needled something in Winter brain.
"You ..You can like guys?"
Summer nod his head "Yes"
"How are you sure it's not friendship? Demons often mistake friendship for love"
Summer shook his head, his voice was paitent "I know my feelings"
Winter lowered his head , his thinking was starting to get disorganized, his heart was beating fast and his breathing was dragged out.
Liking the same sex doesn't mean friendship? Then what is the difference between friendships and love? How does he differentiate it? Would summer like a man the way he likes a woman? Or will their love be different?
Summer traced a finger on his arm , the way he always does whenever he was nervous " Does it make you feel uncomfortable?I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable"
Winter felt a tingling in his spine but he Ignored it " You can never make me feel uncomfortable Summer "
There was a flash of pink on Summer face and he pressed even more forward , his body touching his "Are you sure ?"
The tingling sensation turned his skin hot and winter could feel himself turning dizzy "Yes... "
If Summer had a partner, a male partner, would he act this way towards him? Moving closer and calling out Winter?
Summer blinked at him "Winter um if I told you…"
A maid called out to winter and his Concentration broke. There was an urgent meeting in court.
Winter gently pushed Summer off him and stood up.
"I have to go , don't stay out too late "
Summer blinked before nodding "Okay"
The matter was about two demons that had gotten over a fight over a piece of land. He settled it quickly and then went back to the garden to check if Summer was there.
He was still there , as usual he had on a sleepy expression as he looked at the moon.
"Summer?"
Summer looked at him with hazy eyes and smiled "hmmm"
"I thought I told you not to stay out late "
"Just wanted to moon bathe for a while"
There was a silence again between them before he asked in a soft voice.
"Anything you wanted to say to me ?"
"It's nothing " Summer stood up and dusted his robes "Have a nice sleep"
Winter didn't know why but that day as he lied down on the bed thinking about everything that happened , he couldn't help but feel disappointed.
"I wonder what he wanted to say "

It was a rainy day he met his wife ,Thunder Tongan.
Rainy days were rare in the demon realm , But each time there was one , it would pour for days , sometimes even weeks.
He and Summer had gone out in spite of the rain and enjoy the cool showers while talking. Summer was telling a funny story when Winter eyes caught a purple haired woman standing under a tree , her fingers stretched out to touch the falling drops.
As if noticing someone was staring at her , she raised her eyes and stared back at him.
He saw electricity crackled through her hair and eyes. She blinked as her face turned red and Winter couldn't help but turn red too.
How beautiful is this Lady, long purple hair , bright eyes and full lips. She's everything wonderful and amazing, he wants to know more about her.
'Was this how Summer also felt towards the guys he said he likes? Is this the difference between friendships and love?'

After that day , he would go out to stroll come rain , come sunshine , come snow. He went out whether Summer was coming or not.
He noticed that Summer temper was getting worse but because of the sparkles of love , he didn't take it seriously and chalked it all up to a mid life syndrome.
The girl was always under the tree. He have come to identify her with that purple electricity hair and eyes , and her tendencies to read in the open.
Thunder later told him that she was pretending to read so she won't look strange waiting for him everyday.
The two of them were nervous demons and refused to approach each other for over 3 months. At last Winter finally gathered the courage one day and skipped over to her.
"Hello "
Lightening came out of nowhere and struck Winter turning his precious hair charred. Thunder let out a Yelp and started to help him absorb the electricity.
"I am so sorry !!! Everytime I am nervous, my powers just come out in a frenzy "
Winter coughed out smoke ignoring the numbingly feelings still running all over his body.
"I am okay "
"You are not okay... it's all my fault "
"It's not your fault really " he held her hand and flushed ; his heart beating wildly " I want to know more about you "
Thunder stared at him for a long while before nodding her head so vigorously , winter almost thought it will fall off " Me too "

"Winter you promised to have tea with me "
Winter looked at the dark sky then looked at Summer who was calmly preparing tea like it was no one's business.
He tapped his foot nervously before grabbing Summer wrist " I have an appointment with Thunder"
Summer looked at the wrist , a strange emotion in his eyes " That girl?"
"Yes "
"But you promised "
He could hear the dissatisfaction in Summer voice , he stood up and pulled Summer with him , his fingers rubbed his skin to calm him down.
"Let's go together , I have always wanted you two to meet "
Thunder was under the tree as usual , her eyes sparkled as soon as she saw him .
"Winter..."
Her eyes moved over to the man standing beside Winter and like a switched television channel , her gaze went sharp.
Summer also stared at her , his gaze unreadable .
Winter felt something bitter enter his heart and he swallowed.
He have never seen Summer have this kind of expression before, not even towards him. Why was he showing that expression to thunder? What does he want from her?
Why was thunder also looking at Summer ? He wanted them to meet , not stare at each other.
Do they like each other? Did Summer also fall in love with thunder just like he did on the first day?
"Summer!"
Summer blinked and stared at winter, his eyes were confused like he wasn't the one staring at thunder earlier.
"Winter , what happened?" Thun
der asked , her voice was soft.
Winter shook his head , he let go of Summer hand and grabbed thunder own.
"This is the girl I love"
No matter what, Summer and thunder must not be together.
