Chapter 5 - Strategic Exchange

The whole chaos seems to have been resolved, but the aftermath left a bitter reminder of the destructive effect of violence.

Families huddled together to mourn their loss, as casualties couldn't be avoided in this scenario.

Avalon walked towards the cops with a cold expression. Although he never considered himself a saint, that doesn't mean he loves watching people die.

In fact, the reminder of what almost happened to him today made him quite angry, but he kept it all in behind a cold mask after considering his quest may be filled with such dangers too.

Some group of individuals where dragged out of the trucks, as sparks flickered from some of their injuries. Turns out they are Cyborgs, as the various cybernetic enhancement were low grade, making them quite vulnerable to specialized EMP bursts.

The previous EMP surge had caused critical damage to their system, else most of them might have already escaped after evading the law with various means.

Guard rails and electric fences were quickly deployed around the impact zone, as drones frantically searched for some those that escaped.

Turned out their intelligence specialist and three members were missing from the terrorist squad.

"Sir, I have info on their secondary base."

Avalon approached a cop who was frantically giving orders with a sweaty face.

The man's face lit up instantly, as this specific terrorist group have been a pain to deal with, always covering their tracks when they cause chaos.

Is still quite strange how they always seem to escape whenever they are about to be caught.

"Are you sure of what you just said?"

The young cop hoped for confirmation, as this is a critical piece of information that will aid a major strike against these bastards.

The man doesn't really care about how this teen got the information, all that matters is for it to be credible. Desperation had already set in at this point.

Terrorist don't just cause chaos and destruction for their aims, but also serve as a channel for corrupt individuals to execute their dirty deals.

The city has technology, but so do the terrorist too, if not specialized equipment, as there seem to have channels to outlaws and pirates.

Pirates often have access to evasive and illegal wares, as they always seek to cover their tracks before and after their operations.

In fact in some star systems, pirates posses more firepower than the official governments of said system, forcing them to take extreme measures out of desperation.

Some weaker system will seek protection from more powerful ones in exchange for resources or whatever term is agreed on.

After Beatrix hacked their drone, luckily their data feed was left open, as she tapped into their database and got a host of confidential Information.

It seems that in their haste to escape, their intelligent specialist made a critical mistake of forgetting to close the feed he was using to relay information.

They might have been contacting their base regarding the progress of their mission, as everything seemed to have been going well.

Then boom!

Their target opened fire after discovering their presence in advance. They were quite audacious enough to target the vice mayor of the city, as their plan was to kidnap him for whatever reason best known to them.

It was all thanks to the rapid reaction of the vice mayor's elite security that he got out unscathed.

On discovering their failure, the terrorist caused as much chaos as they could within that time frame to escape.

Avalon was currently seated facing the vice mayor of Still Heart, but there was no sign of nervousness on his face at all. In fact, he seems more curious about this legend always talked about in the news.

"Hi there young one."

The old man smiled gently as he engaged the conversation as if he wasn't in danger few minutes ago.

"Hi sir."

Avalon felt a bit awkward as he didn't quite know the appropriate way to respond. This whole social stuff wasn't really his fort, although he do get into dialogues with people when he causes mischief, but those conversations seems fun to him.

"Alright, let's skip the pleasantries and get to the issue.

How much information do you have? And what do you wish to trade it for?"

The vice mayor now looked more interested, considering he was informed that the info was critical.

Although the man might look old, but his physique says otherwise, as he pulses with vibrancy and radiates a gentle, yet commanding aura.

"Not just their secondary base, but some Intel about their major scheme and…"

Avalon deliberately stopped, leaving his sentence incomplete, as he observed their reaction.

And they didn't disappoint, the officials in the room perked up, as the gazed at him intently, pressuring him with their gaze. Their subtle action didn't escape his notice, as he remained unaffected.

Controlling the pace of a conversation may also affect the overall outcome of that exchange. Avalon knows this, that's why he decided to apply a strategic mindset in order to not only make this conversation worth his time, but also increase the possibility of achieving his goal.

"Helping your homeland is the duty of every citizen.

Do not even focus on monetary and material gains, after all helping, for the greater good of the state is better than immediate benefits."

A middle aged man with glasses, sitting across the edge of the large conference table was quite dissatisfied with discussion of providing benefits. He got quite annoyed when this teenager tried to create suspense, as he hoped to use moral attacks and talks of righteousness to shoo him away.

"Protecting the citizen is the duty of every state.

Quickly finding and distributing the missing resources is the key to a better homeland."

Avalon delivered his payload without even gazing at the direction.

They was complete silence for some moments, as stunned expression appeared on most of the individuals present.

"Hahahaha, oh no!"

The vice mayor bust into laughter, as he struggled to hold it in. There was definitely something unique about this teen that interest him.
