Selene's POV
The blinding spear of light shot upward as the ritual circle roared alive with crimson and lunar fire. My heart pounded against my ribs, my breath trapping in my chest as the power surged and pressed against the walls of the room. For a moment I thought my spirit would be pushed out of my own body, but then the light stilled as if held by an unseen hand.
And then I heard it.
A voice in my mind.
Soft. Familiar. Warm with divine energy.
"My child…"
The moment I heard those words my knees weakened under me. I knew that voice. I would know it across realms and across lifetimes. It was Celine. The Goddess. The one who had blessed me, chosen me, and woven a destiny inside me I was only beginning to grasp.
"Celine," I whispered in my mind even though my lips did not part. "What is happening?"
Her voice wrapped around me like a gentle veil.
"One of them must truly die," she said. "And it will be the vampire boy."
My heart lurched with shock. "Adrian," I thought.
