It's been about a week since I woke up in this hideout, the hideout of the gang known as Karma.exe.
I worked with a few nobody's on a few jobs for Reika but it didn't really mean much. Running around grabbing tech from random people that she made deals with.
All of this is in preparation for the raid on the mana port but I don't really know if that'll be a good call yet.
Not that I can make any decisions around here, Reika made that abundantly clear the other day when I tried to suggest a different approach to how we handle the deals.
I've had to kill a couple people these last few days and it was a pain in the ass.
"The street rat is slowly climbing, I'm so proud." Pinky spoke up with a sarcastic tone.
I'm sitting inside the cafeteria, I didn't realize that Pinky had approached me at first. He wasn't too bad since I don't usually talk with him that much.
"Sure you do. Soon enough I'll be your boss." I responded.
This guy sucks at taking jokes, sarcasm, and even compliments. I've noticed that with the few interactions I've had with him the last few days.
Sadly he is also one of my bosses since he is above me in the ranks here but I don't intend to be here too long. I'm going to climb the ranks and slowly start to build my own gang in the shadows.
"F*ck off Pinky. I want to have a chat with Zero." Rezex said as he appeared out of nowhere.
I haven't even talked with this prick before but back in the meeting room I did want to meet him. There just hasn't been a good opportunity for me to speak to him since most people here say he's a bad influence.
"Whatever. Suit yourself asshole." Pinky replied before walking off.
Rezex took a seat directly across from, making his mask a lot more obvious to see. A silver fox like mask with two purple eyes glaring through it at me.
Definitely not his real eyes since the mask was some sort of weird modified one, but I guess it suits him.
"You seem to have a lot of talent to you, why the hell are you here?" Rezex asked with a serious tone.
"Paying back a debt. That's just how I am." I answered without hesitation.
"I've seen your shooting in the range here and I've heard you killed 10 people within the first week of doing jobs." Rezex said while staring right at me.
I can feel his eyes piercing through that damn mask but I have a plan. He just doesn't know anything about what I'm planning and that's probably how it is going to stay.
If I end up trusting him down the road, I'll let him in on my plan. I've still got a lot of shit to figure out before then.
Making sure Renji is still alive has been my biggest priority but I haven't seen anything about him or heard anything on the streets. That's not good or bad yet.
I doubt he'd get into more trouble after everything that happened and it has been quite awhile since everything happened.
"Once I feel like I repaid my debt, I'll figure everything out." I replied with a calm tone.
"I take it they haven't told you a thing about how to use that arm. Giving you a chance to utilize mana without actually teaching you anything." Rezex said with disappointment.
"If I'm killing people already, what does it matter?" I questioned.
"Mana is a game changer and no one really knows how to use it. Doc definitely could teach you though. I have a way to use it as well." Rezex responded while still keeping a serious tone.
I haven't ever cared much for the idea of Mana since it isn't something that we rely on. They discovered it quite some time ago and not even the government has found a good use for it.
Well, I guess if you don't count the cars that fly around the city. They tried an experiment with mana to make the thrusters function better and it has worked so far.
But weapon wise, it is completely dead in the water. I don't think anyone has proven that it can be used in that manner yet.
This arm and even the metal in my chest have been feeling weird though. I still haven't found a proper way to describe it but it is kind of like something new started flowing throughout my body.
It hasn't been painful but it has been a bit of a weird experience so far.
"Why do you care? I'm just some random guy man. We don't know each other and I'm sure plenty of other people would be interested in this mana crap." I said with a calm tone.
"Kairox isn't a city that waits on people. Take advantage of the gifts you get and use them to rise above the scum in the streets. That's my advice to you, I'll let you think on everything for a bit." Rezex replied before getting up to leave.
I watched for a moment as he walked away and it did kind of make a bit more sense.
He also seems to be interested in rising above the people in the streets but I need to know he is worth trusting before recruiting him. I've also got to figure out a better plan going forward as well.
Kairox really is a hell hole for most people and I don't think it'll ever get easier for anyone.
I'd like to know more about Reika and the goals she has though. I haven't really gotten a chance to talk with her much since she assigned me that first job.
She always looks like of sad, not that I care all that much. Emotions are what make our lives harder to push through.
