Davina's POV
I positioned myself beside my bed, watching the tiny figure tucked beneath the covers.
Cooper's breathing created a gentle pattern as he slept, his small face serene and oblivious to the chaos swirling through my mind.
I needed to rouse him shortly. Classes would begin in under an hour. I had to help him get dressed, prepare his backpack, and squeeze in some breakfast before we hurried through the door.
Yet for this instant, I remained motionless, observing.
My chest constricted. I had reached my conclusion.
We weren't leaving.
I could only pray that someday I wouldn't reflect on this as the most terrible choice I'd ever made.
Being truthful with myself... I was already nearly convinced it was.
The idea of entering that corporation twisted my insides. It seemed less like beginning fresh employment and more like stepping into a trap while forcing a grin.
I had no clue what awaited me, or how this would conclude in the end. Dear God, what was I thinking?
