Davina's POV
I needed to disappear. Terror coursed through my veins, and my survival instinct kicked in as I grabbed whatever was within reach.
I seized a magazine from the waiting area desk and bolted toward the far wall of the lobby. Flattening myself against it, I flipped the pages open and raised them like a shield in front of my face, pretending to be absorbed in the content.
My breath came in short gasps. I silently begged that nobody would question why I was standing here like a complete moron, staring at a wall.
I'd been bracing for this moment. I understood it was unavoidable. This was his territory.
Naturally, our paths would intersect eventually. But anticipating something and being prepared for it were entirely separate matters.
My pulse hammered against my ribs.
I was petrified. Absolutely terrified.
Still, something inside me yearned to turn toward him.
