Davina's POV
No Way Out
Louise Jenkin was in danger.
The thought hammered against my temples with every pulse of blood through my veins. I didn't need evidence or someone else's confirmation. I'd witnessed it all. I'd lived through it in my sleep, the way it always happened.
I was watching danger close in on her.
The certainty crushed down on me.
Work couldn't wait, no matter how fear clawed at my insides.
My body felt foreign that morning. My legs dragged like lead weights, my fingers turned ice-cold, and despite my attempts to control my breathing, each breath came out ragged and shallow.
The cool morning air did nothing to settle my frayed nerves. Everyone else saw just another ordinary day, but the world's entire burden seemed to rest on my shoulders. I hauled myself into the taxi, gripping my purse like it was the only thing keeping me from completely unraveling.
