Chapter 38 - Chapter 38 — Victoria’s Anger

Victoria returned home later that day. The moment she stepped through the door, Grace could tell something was wrong.

Victoria's eyes were red, as though she had been crying, and her face was tense with anger and frustration. She walked into the living room without saying a word.

Then she stopped.

A small decorative vase that usually sat neatly on the table had been knocked over and broken on the floor.

Victoria's expression immediately darkened.

"Felicity!"

The little girl looked up in fear.

"What have you done?! ,I know it's you"

Grace, who was nearby, quickly rushed into the living room. She froze when she saw Victoria standing over Felicity.

Felicity's little face was covered with tears.

"It was an accident…" she cried. "I didn't mean to, Mommy."

Victoria's anger only grew.

"You dare ruin something I worked so hard for?"

"Do you really have idea how much is that."

She raised her hand.

Grace's heart stopped.

"No , no, no".

Before Victoria could strike, Grace stepped forward and firmly grabbed her wrist.

"Stop!"

Victoria turned sharply toward her.

Grace stood between her and Felicity, her expression firm.

"You will not touch her."

Victoria glared at her. "Who do you think you are?" she snapped. "She's my daughter!"

Grace didn't move.

"She is a child. She already told you it was an accident, yet you want to hit her for breaking a vase?"

Her voice remained steady. "You will not hurt her while I'm here."

Felicity immediately ran into Grace's arms, sobbing.

Grace held her close, shielding her from Victoria.

"No one will ever hurt you again, Felicity."

"I promise."

Victoria stared at Grace, her anger slowly turning into disbelief.

For months, Grace had remained quiet and obedient. But now, she had dared to stand against her.

"You're becoming too bold," Victoria said coldly.

Grace said nothing.

Victoria pointed toward the hallway.

"You're fired."

Grace looked at her.

"Pack your things and leave my house immediately."

For a moment, the room fell silent. Then Grace slowly stepped closer.

A small, confident smile appeared on her lips.

Victoria frowned.

Grace leaned slightly toward her and lowered her voice.

"I see…"

Her eyes remained fixed on Victoria.

"You want me to leave so you can have your space with Chriss and keep your little secret hidden."

Victoria stiffened.

Grace continued quietly.

"But tell me…"

She paused.

"What if your husband found out about everything you've been doing?"

Victoria's eyes widened. Her face suddenly went pale.

"What… what are you talking about?"

Grace simply smiled.

Victoria stared at her in shock.

She had never expected Grace to know.

Grace straightened and stepped back.

"I think you understand exactly what I'm talking about."

Victoria couldn't answer. For the first time, fear replaced the anger in her eyes.

Grace turned away and walked calmly toward her room. Her heart was pounding, but she refused to show fear. Once inside, she closed the door behind her and leaned against it, taking a deep breath.

She may be powerful, but I will not back down.

Grace looked toward the room where Felicity was waiting.

My daughter will be safe. No matter what.

That evening, everyone gathered around the dining table for dinner. The atmosphere was unusually quiet.

Victoria barely touched her food. Her mind was still trapped on Grace's words from earlier.

"What if your husband found out?"

Every time she remembered them, her stomach tightened.

Across the table, Grace calmly continued eating.

She noticed Victoria's uneasy glances but said nothing.

After a moment, Grace looked up. "Madam…"

Victoria slowly raised her eyes.

Grace gave her a small, knowing smile.

"Why does this food feel so heavy tonight?"

Victoria's hand froze around her fork.

For a second, nobody spoke.

Grace lowered her eyes to her plate, hiding the amusement in her expression.

Let her think about it. She cannot intimidate me anymore. And she will never do her stupidity thimgs to my daughter while I'm here.

Victoria clenched her jaw and forced herself to continue eating. But inside, her mind was racing.

Grace knew.

Or at least, she knew enough to be dangerous.

After dinner, everyone eventually returned to their rooms to sleep.

The next morning, the household returned to its usual routine. By midday, Victoria found Grace and called her over.

"Grace."

"Yes, ma'am?"

"Prepare a good meal. My husband will be coming home tonight, and I want everything to be perfect."

Grace looked at her for a moment.

Then a small, confident smile appeared on her lips. "Of course, ma'am."

She turned to begin her work. But inside, her thoughts were very different. So David is coming home tonight.

"Good."

Grace's expression remained calm as she continued preparing the meal.

Let's see how long Victoria can keep her secrets hidden.

Across the room, Victoria watched her carefully.

She could feel that something had changed. Grace was no longer the frightened and obedient servant she had known before.

And for the first time, Victoria wasn't sure whether she was still in control.
