Beneath the trees heavy with ripe fruits, under a sky as clear as a crystal ball, and with birds chirping a merry tune, Everly received her very first marriage proposal!
Everly's imagination went into overdrive. She pictured the bells pealing, her and Cassian walking hand in hand in their wedding finery out of the church, tossing a bouquet of flowers, and then both of them breaking into a wild break dance of joy in front of all the guests, who were clapping like seals. Meanwhile, Sylvia was in the corner, biting a handkerchief with pure rage, unable to stomach the sight of Everly marrying a handsome and wealthy man.
Thankfully, she snapped out of her daydream and recalled that the man standing before her had just threatened to throw her in jail. And yet, in less than five minutes, that threat had transformed into a marriage proposal.
