Chapter 44 - You're Done For!

Then his tone hardened, that familiar warning edge slipping in.

"And please, stop bringing up these things. You know how much it upsets me. You shouldn't make me angry, Olaedo. I thought you knew me better by now. Anyway, bye."

The call ended before she could reply.

Olaedo sat frozen, phone still in hand, her reflection trembling in the restaurant's glass window. Her throat tightened as tears threatened to spill, but she blinked them back.

She couldn't cry. Not here. Not where cameras could find her.

Straightening her posture, she forced a faint smile for the curious waiter who passed by, then quietly gathered her things and left.

Outside, the night was cool and heavy with silence. The city lights blurred as she drove home, headlights streaking across her windshield like fading memories.

But her mind refused to rest. It kept circling back to the faint sounds she had heard during their call, club music, cheering, laughter.

If he was working late, why was there music?
