Chapter 15 - Secret Friends And Foes

The news quickly spread throughout Eden City, making headlines. Maxwell had officially humiliated a Duke and the Lord of the Gillette Household all in one day. The news was everywhere with words spreading into every nook and cranny.

Eastern Zone, Eden City. The Luther Household court.

The Luther Household held power in the Eastern Zone of Eden City. They had the smallest zone under their control with minimal power they could be regarded as any normal household if not for the brilliance of the members. The household was able to produce great players with powerful techniques over time as they grew into power.

"My Lord, what do you think we should do here?"

"We do not need to mingle in this matter. It would be futile since we have the smallest zone. Making ourselves a threat to any of the other powerhouses could become our end, so we do nothing." The Lord of the Luther Household ordered.

Western Zone, Eden City. The Quadri Household.

"Such boldness from a teen, he truly wishes to die early. Well! What does he have to lose again by registering for the competition?"

"If Maxwell dies, Sebastian would surely use this opportunity to seal his position as the Lord of the Gillette Household for sure but it could also open a contest for other dukes of the Gillette Household to challenge for the position."

"The peace the Gillette Household experienced now was because Maxwell was still alive. I doubt if Sebastian would let him live after humiliating him?"

"My Lord! What if Maxwell survives this dilemma?"

"Survive?"

"My Lord, he has to die so we, the Quadri Household, could take on our opportunity..."

Gallagher Quadri, the Lord of the Quadri Household sat quietly all this time while he listened to the suggestions from the members of the court. After carefully assessing the situation, he said. "It's time Maxwell died. We have to thread the sinking sand now!"

Eden City has five major households that acted like they worked in harmony, but secretly they had been competing with each other for the top family. Each controls a zone.

The Gillette Household had gradually lost its power over the central zone over the years giving the other Households a glimmer of hope to claim their zone. Claiming the Central Zone would give any household the power they needed to claim Eden City since it was the biggest and now had loopholes.

Southern Zone, Eden City. Castro Household.

"I don't think Maxwell would be alive any longer."

"Good thing we ended the marriage between him and Lena early. Who knows what could become our fate?"

"He was always arrogant, but now he has gone mad, surely. The peace of the Gillette Household wouldn't last long with him around."

"My Lord, I don't think we need to interfere with this matter. Lena already has Vincent in her tangled web. We could easily use that to gain control within the Gillette Household."

"How very clever. We still need to watch out for the other families, especially the Gryphons. Let me know their every move."

Northern Zone, Eden City. The Gryphons' Household.

Austin Gryphon sat down, his gaze lost in thought before regaining his composure. "You are absolutely sure it was Maxwell who stopped Fargo's energy ball?"

"Yes, I saw it happen in front of me." A teenager dressed in the Gillette Household attire responded. He was dressed as a member of the Gillette Household but was in fact a member of the Gryphons Household.

Every ruling Household within Eden members works as spies within themselves.

"And, what rank and level do you think Maxwell is on now?" Austin asked.

"I don't know. But the aura he displayed showed he was very strong and the martial technique he used was very unique, unlike anything we've seen. It was a double technique in one at a different level."

"All this carried out by a cripple?" Austin wondered. "You may take your leave now. Isaac, go pay him 100 silver currency."

The teenager acknowledged before taking his leave. "Thank you, My Lord."

Austin faced his council as soon as the teenager left. "What do you think should be our angle now?"

With him were the five Dukes of the Gryphon's Household.

"Could he have been pretending to be crippled all this time? What else would explain the type of power he used to face Fargo?"

"I would say the same, but I've been monitoring him since he became crippled, and he has never shown any signs of cultivating even in secret."

"His participation in the entrance competition would surely give Sebastian the loophole he's been looking for to end him, and once he's out of the picture, Sebastian would take over completely, but the discord among the Dukes could be the advantage for the other Households to take power of the Central Zone."

"We have to start making our own plans and immediately My Lord."

Austin was lost in his thoughts and had paid little attention to the discussion that was going on. He still wondered how a teenager was able to defend against an adult of silver rank, not to mention it was an energy ball, the strongest form of attack.

He couldn't have levelled up beyond the bronze rank even if he cultivated all day at his age, and there was no known defence a bronze rank could use when facing off a silver rank, so...

Fargo was not just anybody else. He was a Duke, and cursing at him was an offence. What guts did Maxwell have to pull off these stunts? All these raced through Austin's mind as he stared into nothingness. His next words shocked the dukes of the Gryphon's Household.

"Duke Malachi, you'll join the Gillette Household entrance competition secretly with just one mission. Protect Maxwell and only reveal yourself when necessary."

After giving out the order he brought out ten healing orbs. "Take this with you, you'd never know when you need them."

"My Lord... Why the sudden change of heart? We would be on the winning side if he dies."

It was still a confusion why the Lord of the Gryphons' Household had made such a drastic decision.

"What if he survives?" These words were a reminder of what could be possible.

The Central Zone, Eden City. The Gillette Household Sword Arcade.

The Sword Arcade was where all training involving the sword technique could be practised. Since Lady Gwendolyn agreed to join Sir Gregory in his training, the place had become their private training ground.

"Maxwell wants to compete in the entrance competition?" Gwendolyn said, the surprise on he face becoming visible as he withdrew her sword.

"Yes, he seems to want to meet his end in a less humiliating way with fewer people. Why don't you join me for the competition?"

Gwendolyn looked disgusted by Gregory's suggestion, but Maxwell came as a priority for her, so she asked. "Am I even eligible to compete in a Household competition that I'm not part of?"

"Why not, who could challenge my authority?" Gregory replied happily.

"I'll compete with you then."

Gregory grinned from ear to ear. This is where he could display his strength, being the knight in shining armour for the princess, who knows he could even get laid..."

Just then, a figure walked into the Sword Arcade. Bawa walked in, he was Sebastian's personal bodyguard and Gregory's teacher.

"Lord Sebastian is requesting your presence immediately, Sir Gregory," Bawa said. This has never happened before so Gregory was obligated to follow.

"Okay!" He responded before turning to face Gwendolyn. "I have to leave now. We'll go together tomorrow for the competition and I shall be your knight."

Both Bawa and Gregory left immediately.

Lady Gwendolyn was now alone in the sword arcade, her face swelling up in sadness, "I'll protect you, Maxwell, at all costs..."
