Chapter 22 - 22. that’s what I call an intense chase

Daisy and Lara were hunched over the conference table, files spread out between them, the final presentation glowing on Lara's laptop—the one scheduled for tomorrow.

"This is impressive work for the time we had," Lara said, scrolling through the slides one last time. "I'm happy with it. Just make sure the slide about product materials has more detail—where we're sourcing from, the process, all of it. It'll help them see how pure and organic our products really are. We need them to believe in what we're selling."

"Got it," Daisy said, already jotting notes before hurrying off to brief the design team.

By the end of the day, everything was set. The office had nearly emptied out, lights dimmed except for the soft glow of Lara's laptop.

"We're all ready for tomorrow," Daisy said, walking back into the room. "Why are you still here? Everyone else has left."

Lara didn't look up. "Yeah, I know. I just… wanted to make sure everything's perfect. We have to seal this deal, Daisy. We might not find another partner like Company A again."

Daisy leaned against the desk, folding her arms, a reassuring smile on her face. "Hey, relax. We've got this. The deal's as good as ours." She paused, glancing around the quiet office, then pulled out a chair and sat. "By the way… what happened to Dane?"

The air shifted.

No one in the company really knew who Lara and Daisy were—not truly. To everyone else, they were just two ambitious women running a fast-growing business: sharp, driven, independent. But behind glass walls and polished smiles, there was another side to them.

They were part of something the world wasn't meant to know about—a covert special-forces unit that didn't officially exist. No records. No paper trail. Just whispered names and encrypted calls.

Agents.

Only a handful of people knew the truth. Not even their families had the slightest idea.

Lara told Daisy everything—the mission, the chase, the aftermath. They were best friends, after all, and Lara never really held back with her. She even mentioned waking up in Zain's arms, carefully sidestepping what had led to that moment.

She finished with a quiet sigh. "So in the end… we didn't get him."

Daisy, who was more of a dark-romance addict than a field agent at heart, shot up from her chair. "Oh my god—wait… what?!"

"Yeah, I know. We couldn't catch him, even after that whole insane chase," Lara said, rubbing her temples.

Daisy leaned forward, grinning like a cat that had just found cream. "Not that chase, girl. I meant the other one. The way that guy's got you all tangled up? Now that is what I call an intense chase."

Lara shot her a flat look. "You've officially lost it."

Daisy only grinned wider. "Please. If this were my novel, you two would've kissed right after the explosion."

Lara just ignored her comments with an eye roll "lets get back to work now"
