She laughed and shook her head. "Honestly? I wouldn't mind. I'm tired of seeing that smiling face of yours."
He laughed despite himself, though tears threatened to spill.
Laila had never seen her brother like this. So vulnerable. It made her chest ache so badly.
"Did she break your heart?" she asked gently.
Eryx groaned again. "Laila, please."
She could tell he was scared of crying in front of her. But she didn't care.
She moved closer. "Tell me."
He glanced at her, then around the room, blinking rapidly as he tried to steady himself.
Finally, he spoke. "I think the Moon Goddess has become a joker."
Laila's eyes widened. "What?"
Out of everything she expected, this wasn't it. So the Moon Goddess broke her brother's heart?
How dare she?
"The Moon Goddess dared to break your heart?" She jumped up, standing in front of him with her hands on her hips.
He stared at her like she had grown horns. Then he scoffed and flicked her forehead.
"You're so stupid."
