Wukong let go of Zhu Zhuqing, turned around, and headed toward a more remote spot.
He needed to scout the route first—if a flying-type soul beast suddenly swooped down on them, that would be annoying.
They were flying back to the academy this time, and Wukong planned to make both girls use Wukong Shu to get there. Sure, it counted as training… but mostly he just didn't want to carry two people all the way.
Resting early in the morning wasn't allowed apparently. Why bother with morning practice…?
"Hu~"
Zhu Zhuqing let out a soft sigh, relieved she had escaped a disaster—for now. But what goes around comes around.
Tonight that guy definitely wouldn't behave. Just thinking about it made her entire body tense up, both numb and exhausted.
She turned her head toward Ning Rongrong and said coldly, "Get ready. It's time to return to the academy."
"I really don't get it," Zhu Zhuqing muttered. "With his talent, why would he choose this academy?"
Wukong's cultivation and aptitude were enough for him to stand tall in an imperial-level academy—he could even be the dean if he wanted.
So why pick this academy? Never mind the environment—just the teaching alone…
"I think Wukong said something about extreme physical stimulation helping to trigger a student's innate nerve potential… something like that?"
"His way of cultivating works way better than the academy's," Zhu Zhuqing put her hands on her hips, still puzzled.
"No way!" Ning Rongrong blinked her light blue eyes in surprise. "So when you came to this academy, you didn't even check its background?"
Zhu Zhuqing shook her head. "No. He arranged for me to come here. I didn't even know why he chose it."
Ning Rongrong's curiosity instantly flared—she had always wanted to ask how Zhu Zhuqing and Sun Wukong met.
And right now, Wukong wasn't here… perfect opportunity.
Ning Rongrong leaned in close, giving Zhu Zhuqing a mischievous look that made Zhu Zhuqing uncomfortable.
"What are you staring at me for?" she demanded.
"I know I'm pretty, but don't look at me like that…" Zhu Zhuqing muttered shyly.
Ning Rongrong froze. Her beautiful eyes widened—she felt as if she had just discovered a new world.
So the cold, untouchable Zhu Zhuqing… actually had such an adorable side?
Curiosity exploded. Ning Rongrong couldn't hold back her gossipy grin. "So how did you two meet?"
She was genuinely interested. She herself didn't even understand what she felt for Wukong. She found him pleasant to look at, but whenever Zhu Zhuqing got close to him, her heart tightened uncomfortably.
Sometimes she wondered… Do I like him?But she always treated him as a teacher, a motivator… and a chef.
Everything was unclear.
But something small had definitely started sprouting quietly inside her heart…
Zhu Zhuqing's pupils trembled slightly. She brushed the loose hair from her cheek behind her ear, lightly biting her lip. "We met when we were six…"
Her cheeks warmed as she spoke, as if recalling something sweet. She looked stunning like that.
"We stayed together for about two months. Let me tell you, Rongrong—he was a huge jerk!"
"He always ordered me around to do rough tasks—like clearing paths, pounding his back, or catching birds. If I refused, he'd hit me! He literally smacked my head!" Zhu Zhuqing huffed, anger rising just from the memory.
Back at Star Luo Empire's Royal Academy, Zhu Zhuqing had been extremely popular with male students—her identity, beauty, and figure attracted countless admirers. But all of them were shut down by her icy stare.
Yet Wukong? He ignored her completely… and even bullied her.
"Pfft~" Ning Rongrong burst into laughter, flashing her white teeth.
She never expected the two to have such a past.
"Also—" Zhu Zhuqing leaned in cautiously. Yes, Wukong wasn't around.
She continued whispering to Ning Rongrong…
After a while, Wukong finished scouting the route back to Shrek Academy.
Aside from a few decades-old large birds, there wasn't anything dangerous.
He directly made the two girls fly back on their own. He floated lazily beside them… bored.
But was Wukong really going to let them fly back without extra training?
Of course not.
Zhu Zhuqing was strapped with weighted sandbags, slowing her down significantly. Ning Rongrong had nothing—she could barely even keep altitude as it was.
"Don't slack. Hurry up…" Wukong yawned. Waking up early felt great, but sleeping on a tree… yeah, not the best quality sleep.
Zhu Zhuqing shot him a sharp glare.Easy for you to say when you're not carrying anything.
Ning Rongrong stared at him tiredly, fuming. "Hey! Why did you make Zhuqing carry so many weight bags? Look—the straps are digging into her shoulders!"
"And you, a big grown man, carrying nothing! And you're telling us not to slack? Hmph!"
Wukong glanced back at her, unimpressed. "Then why don't you carry them for her?"
He said it calmly, but inside? He was secretly thrilled.Good, good… more emotional attachment.
"Of course I feel bad for my wife," Wukong muttered. "If it weren't for cultivation, you think I'd let Zhuqing suffer like this?"
"Heh… absolutely impossible."
Who cared the most about Zhu Zhuqing in this world? Herself?
No. If she truly cared about herself, she wouldn't have pushed herself to extremes at the original Shrek.
It was Wukong who cared most—but training was training. Some things she had to go through.
"And what if one day I'm not by Zhuqing's side?"
"Douluo Dalu is a world where strength rules. Without power, no one respects you. Zhuqing shines endlessly when she's with me, but what about when I'm not there?"
Wukong couldn't guarantee he'd always be beside her. From the moment he fought Zamasu, he knew countless enemies would appear in the future.
Shengling Sect alone was a massive threat.
No matter how strong he was, slip-ups could happen. And enemies loved using loved ones as leverage.
If Zhu Zhuqing's strength wasn't high enough… she wouldn't even be able to protect herself.
"You—!" Ning Rongrong pointed at him, pouting hard, but couldn't argue back.
Wukong treated Zhu Zhuqing unbelievably well—always thinking three steps ahead for her. Ning Rongrong knew that clearly.
Zhu Zhuqing, touched by Ning Rongrong speaking up for her, felt warm inside. Such emotional moments never existed in the cold Nether Clan.
But she understood Wukong's intentions. "Thank you, Rongrong. Wukong is right… If my strength isn't enough, what use am I?"
"I don't want to drag him down. This training is necessary!"
She immediately sped up again.
Seeing Zhu Zhuqing working so hard, Wukong said softly, "Good… that's how it should be." His eyes full of affection.
Eventually, Ning Rongrong tightened her breathing rhythm and flew faster to help Zhu Zhuqing keep pace. Wukong didn't stop her.
Before the day ended, the group returned to Shrek Academy.
