"Belinda Emilia Knight!" She yelled as soon as she stepped into my office.
The sound of her heels echoed in the room and probably the whole building.
"Mrs Knight" Jackson greeted as politely as possible.
"Jackson" She greeted back smiling. I swear he's the only person she actually likes.
Brian greets her and makes an excuse to leave me alone with her.
Coward
At least Jackson stayed.
"What's this I hear about your fiancé missing?" She asked removing her glasses and roof sized hat.
"Mom, you know how tabloids are."
"Did I not teach you well? Have I failed as a mother?
When you kill someone, you make sure nobody questions their disappearance baby girl." She said this waving her hands in the air as if this were a normal mother- daughter conversation to have.
She sat down in my chair and I didn't move a muscle.
I'm itching to scream because nobody sits there but me.
"Speak. What happened? Why didn't you cover your tracks?" She questioned hitting the table once.
Her accent is strong and her yelling hits different because if it.
"Mom, I don't have energy for this."
"Mrs Knight, if I may...it's my fault. I forgot to fake his flight ticket purchase to Scotland. Belinda did all that she was suppose to. I'll make this all go away. It's what I do."
What's he doing?
"Jackson, my darling, please pay attention next time." She simply said grabbing her sun glasses as she stood up to go kiss him on the cheek.
Bullshit
"I will." He responded.
"And you missy? Aren't you going to say anything?" She asked me.
"Mom, leave." I ordered, as I got up to open the door for her.
"Excuse me?"
"I don't have time for this. Leave."
Somehow I've managed to pretend I'm not terrified very well. I almost believed it.
The trick is to slow down your breathing, and match it with your blinking.
"You're going to kick me out for calling you out on YOUR negligence?" She asked, putting her hat back on.
"You didn't even greet me when you entered MY office mom."
"I don't owe you anything hun. I brought you into this world. I don't have to greet you everytime I see you. I didn't even greet you when you popped out of me so why start now?" She rolled her eyes then put her glasses back on.
My blood began to boil.
"Please leave." I asked, again trying to sound as nonchalant as possible.
"Fine. Just make this go away. I raised you to become a mafia so you'd never feel the need to ask anyone to help you deal with your problems. Also,I know Jackson is covering for you. Pathetic Belinda. Pa...the...tic."
It took a lot for me not to slap her across the face.
She eventually left and I let out a deep breath I didn't know I was holding in.
I closed the door and Jackson immediately rushed over to give me a hug.
"Let go of me, you know I don't like hugs."
This made him hold me even tighter.
When he let go of me, he helped guide me to one of my couches and poured me a drink.
"Talk to me. What do you need me to do?" He asked.
"Exactly what you told my mom you forgot to do. I want it to look like he left me because he got cold feet."
"I got you girl. The judge?"
"He will drop the verdict against the suspects and dismiss the case. Easy as ABC."
He hands me my glass and dashes it with Sprite before I take a sip.
"Thank you I needed this glass." I said, while gulping it.
"Easy "He chuckled.
"That woman will be the death of me. I got distracted by business deals. It happens. My ex fiancé was the last thing on my mind."
"I get that."
"You never liked him anyways." I smiled.
"Not even a little bit. He wasn't the right guy for you." He replied.
"Oh really?"
"Yes really."
"And you know who is?" I chuckled.
Jackson's POV
I love seeing her laugh or smile. It's interesting how nobody else sees this side of her but me.
