Chapter 14 - Getting All Your Senses Clogged

What do you do when you wake up? You 'urinate,' and by this I can say... most of the people do, though some even may take a shit. People have various ideas, and they do creative... but that isn't the problem.

The problem is... what if someone wakes up before their schedule? I mean, everyone has a sleep cycle, which they need to follow.

No one likes to wake up before their sleep completes. The same goes for me. It makes a vampire cranky! And I hate when someone disturbs my sleep!

My eyes snapped open as I sat up slowly, with my hands in my hair. A loud bang entered into my ears, making me flinch. Okay, my weak spots are my best spots. Our senses are much better than humans which make them more vulnerable, than that of the humans. Do you know how irritating it is for my ears to experience such a ruthless attack?

I looked at Leonard and Nathan, who were sleeping on the floor with just a blanket draped over them.

I don't know why they assigned us this room. The church is big. Very big. Yet, they gave us a room where only two persons can accommodate, and a bed for a single person. There are a lot of empty rooms around ours.

Why is it?

Any normal person should doubt this.

Are they quarantining us?

Or, is it something else?

The rest of them should be living elsewhere... maybe in much deeper and protected area. It would make sense if they are trying to differentiate us from their 'residents.' Although, Killian's words were quite welcoming. Ozef even asked us to attend prayer sessions.

Are they vetting us?

I stood up and stretched myself a little. It was three in the morning. The moon was still hanging over the horizon as the moonlight filtered through the window, illuminating the room slightly.

The same noise was getting into my ears again and again. It was as if someone was banging their head on the table.

Well, I should check it out. I had already planned to check the church out, hadn't I? Change of plans, I guess. The sooner, the better it is.

As I walked down the hallway, my gaze fell on the different paintings hanging over the walls. It was spooking me out. Honestly, even a vampire would freak out if they are surrounded by a lot of weird paintings... which had someone crucified.

A few light bulbs were still on. But they were useless. Why did they even bother to left them on?

Taking a left turn, I spotted a room right under the staircase. See now my hearing comes into action. With my hearing, I can know easily if someone is trying to sneak upon me.

When I tried to open the door, it didn't open.

It was locked.

Fine, I will just open it with my lockpicking skills. I pulled out a pin from my hair and with a few ups and downs, unlocked the door.

It was an office.

Wow, who makes the room under the staircase an office? Apparently, these priests do.

I turned on the light and moved my eyes around the room. The walls were pristine while... with lots and lots of pictures on it. They really like having pictures painted on the wall... if not painted, they liked hanging pictures.

There were seven shelves placed near the table... in a circular manner? What the heck were they thinking when they did 'this?'

But if I ignore this, I could say that... they have invested a lot in this room.

A lot of papers were on the table, which I was totally-not-going to ignore... and a big hat was also there.

Did anyone have thought it clearly before the hat so big? Argh, I am getting distracted... must be my lack of sleep.

I walked towards the table and looked through the papers. After a few minutes, I started laughing... but without sound. Think it of as 'silent' laughter, the one where you laugh silently.

Who the fuck wrote this shit?

According to these papers, the apocalypse is an act of God. To punish the humanity, that's what their god wants. Although, that's what I said to impress those priests. Well, coming back to the topic, they think that zombies are the true form of the 'sinners.' Only sinners will become zombies when bitten. That explains the lax of the security. They believe their lord will protect them.

These papers also describe an elaborate plan to restore humanity's faith to their dear lord. It will take time... but it's okay for them. 'Time makes everything perfect.' Their words, not mine.

Also, there are believe the god has bestowed certain humans with abilities, who will fight for their cause. They are the chosen ones.

I have finished only half of them. There is still a lot to go.

"What are you doing here?" A very familiar voice entered my ears. Shit, I got distracted.

It was Father Killian. He was looking at me sternly... and he was holding a lamp. I couldn't believe the sheer amount of bullshit written in those papers that all of my senses got clogged.

"What are you doing here, Miss Valeria?" Father Killian asked again.

I turned back and gave him an apologetic smile. "I have a habit of sleep walking," I said.

"Sleep walking? You were reading those papers," said Father Killian.

"No, I haven't read anything yet. I was just holding them before you came in. Are these papers important?" I tilted my head and looked at him, slightly challenging him to ask some more questions.

Father Killian gave me a blank stare. He walked towards me and snatched the papers from my hand.

"You should go back to your room," said Father Killian.

I nodded, "Yes, Father." Giving him a last apologetic smile, I walked out of the room. This church makes me want to stick around here for some time, though I do think Father Killian has something similar in his mind. If not then, but now.
